Peter & Paul Snowden’s smart mare I’ve Got The Looks is thriving in the Sunshine State this campaign, her Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival set to continue on Saturday in the Glenlogan Park Stakes 2015.
A total of 18 fillies are mares make up the early entries for this weekend’s $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m), the set weights plus penalties race one of nine events scheduled for Doomben Racecourse’s Doomben 10,000 Day.
There are just three last start winners among the Glenlogan Park Stakes nominations including Choisir five-year-old I’ve Got The Looks who comes off back-to-back Queensland wins.
First-up at the Gold Coast on April 25 she won the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) and then last time out on May 9 she won the Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) to complete a double subsequent Stradbroke Handicap third placegetter Srikandi won last year.
Srikandi also won the Glenlogan Park Stakes 12 months ago completing the hat-trick I’ve Got The Looks shoots for on Saturday.
Ciaron Maher’s reigning Glenlogan Park Stakes winner Srikandi is nominated to defend her title this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival on way to another shot at the $2 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap held over 1350m at Doomben on June 6 this year.
She is more likely however to miss the Glenlogan for a run in the $750,000 Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on Saturday instead where she’ll be out to atone for her luckless eighth in the BTC Cup last time out.
The other two last start winners nominated for the weekend’s middle distance sprint are then Little Brown Horse and the Gerald Ryan-trained Solicit.
The Gold Coast’s Kelly Doughty prepares Waterford Road six-year-old Little Brown Horse who ran fourth in the Silk Stocking before a non-black type win over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast just last Saturday.
Solicit meanwhile broke a notable drought, the Street Cry four-year-old not having won a race since the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in March last year, when she took out the Group 3 Hawkesbury Darley Crown (1300m) at Rosehill on May 9.
In that race she beat home stablemate Peace Force, the consistent Bernardini mare also nominated by Ryan for the Glenlogan this weekend.
A winner of six of her 17 starts, Peace Force was beaten only a long neck in the Darley Crown ahead of her likely Brisbane debut on Saturday.
Also adding interest to the possible line-up is Tony Pike’s New Zealand raider Sancerre who was 17th of 18 runners in last year’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) before returning on December 6 back home for a second over 1200m and no runs since.
Other notable Glenlogan Park Stakes nominees include the Kelly Schweida-trained Juanmo Stakes fourth placed Discreet, fifth in the same race She’s Clean from the star Sydney stables of Chris Waller and fourth past the post in the Darley Crown Peron for Peter Moody.
