Prominent Scone trainer Greg Bennett wasn’t frightened to take on the big name city trainers and jockey and combined with jockey Brenton Avdulla to win one of the feature races on the second day of the two day Scone Cup carnival.

In A Wink was sent out as a $20 chance coming off a ninth in the Country Championships Wild Card (1280m) at Muswellbrook on March 29 but proved to be the best filly today.

Avdulla had In A Wink parked in behind the leading bunch and waited until well into the straight before he split the leaders to dash to the front at the 100m.

In A Wink then went to the line strongly to hold off the fast finishing Fine Mist ($5) with Felines ($10) battling on well for third.

Bennett is a regular visitor to the Scone Carnival and was very happy to get a winning result for the locals.

“It’s been a couple year’s since we’ve been here in the winner’s circle, but if you don’t turn up and try you are no hope,” Bennett said.

“She always has had a lot of ability this filly and home bred, Tamworth owners, I mean it is a good result for the country. I am very pleased.”

“She is a stakes winner now.”

The well tried Gai Waterhouse trained Donelle ($3.90 favourite) jumped well  but was always caught wide and faded in the straight to finish well back in the field.
