Vaughn Sigley’s Perth raider Black Heart Bart continues to firm in The Goodwood 2015 betting markets ahead of this afternoon’s Group 1 race in Adelaide and is now the top fancy to take out the famous Morphettville sprint.
Running as Race 7 at 3:48pm (local time), this year’s lucrative $500,000 Group 1 Darley Goodwood (1200m) features a big field of 17 including Blackfriars four-year-old Black Heart Bart.
The WA galloper has won seven of his 18 starts to date including his four most recent in black type company back home ahead of his maiden interstate run.
Last seen winning the Bunbury Stakes (1400m) on March 8, Black Heart Bart has had a recent freshen-up and is back down over 1200m, which he has won two of his three previous starts at and run second in the third over the distance.
After opening at a quote of $5.50 in The Goodwood odds at Ladbrokes.com.au the money has been steady for the galloper to win his opening Group 1 assignment and Black Heart Bart has firmed right into $4.20 favouritism.
Former favourite Hucklebuck meanwhile is on the drift, the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) winner at Flemington in November last start out from $4 to $5 to win first-up today.
Drawn ideally in barrier three, the Phillip Stokes-trained Elvstroem four-year-old was on fire during the spring and looks to have returned in equally as impressive fashion after winning two Adelaide trials this season including over 1000m by 3.7 lengths at Gawler on May 8.
Occupying the third line of The Goodwood betting at $6.50, out from $6, is then the Darren Weir-trained Lucky Hussler who also boasts Group 1 winning form in Melbourne having won the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley two back.
Last time out he raced in Sydney’s Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) when 1.2 lengths away sixth to Dissident, form he is tipped to improve on when back down to 1200m over which he has an excellent record of four wins, a second and a third from eight starts.
Along with the race favourite, another The Goodwood market mover ahead of this afternoon’s clash is the last of the single figure hopes Under The Louvre ($9 into $8).
Jumping from barrier five with Mark Zahra booked for the ride, Robert Smerdon’s ultra-consistent Excellent Art stallion has a very nice overall record of eight wins, four seconds and three thirds from 19 starts putting him outside the top three only four times.
Runner-up to Shamal Wind in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) back in late February, the four-year-old was last seen crossing second in the Listed Anniversary Vase (1400m) at Caulfield on Aril 18 and should relish getting back to the 1200m over which he’s won six and finished third another three times from 10 starts.
Also firming are the Robbie Laing-trained TJ Smith Stakes runner-up Lord Of The Sky ($13 into $12), talented mare Gregers ($15 into $14) who ran second over this track and distance in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes last start, and Smerdon’s Street Sense mare Politeness ($21 into $17).
