2015 Port Adelaide Cup Winner Go Dreaming Scores 4th on the Trot

Honest Strathalbyn-based galloper Go Dreaming enjoyed a gun ride from top local hoop Clare Lindop leading all-the-way to win the Port Adelaide Cup 2015 at Morphettville on The Goodwood Day.

Having his 32nd career start the Grant Kluske-trained Beautiful Crown five-year-old came off three straight wins since early April including a last start success over the mile and a half at Morphettville Parks on April 25.

After a few weeks away from racing he returned for the $100,000 Listed Japan Trophy Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) where he carried 56kg, going down from 58kg last time out.

Lindop stayed on the exciting stayer and took him to the front soon after the jump from gate six of 10.

It was a position she held on the super-consistent horse who led from Street Boss mare Belvedere Road, coming off three straight wins of her own, who jockey Glen Boss was happy to have sitting on the outside of the pace.

They were followed around but the likes of the local 58kg top weight Gamblin’ Guru, Michael Moroney’s Victorian visitor Zazparella and the Barry Brook-trained Danehill Express mare Clarify who was racing nice and handy in fifth after settling.

Up front Go Dreaming had it all his own way in the lead, while the odds-on favourite Zanteca was racing near the back of the field giving herself plenty of work to do to make up the ground if Darren Weir’s daughter of Zabeel was to salute for the punters in the Port Adelaide Cup.

Coming around the home corner jockey Dean Yendall still had Zanteca three wide and five off the lead as Go Dreaming led the field into the straight.

Getting off the rails to give chase was Zazparella and also trying hard and moving into second was the Leon Macdonald & Andrew Gluyas-trained New Approach four-year-old Gamblin’ Guru.

They couldn’t catch the all-the-way Port Adelaide Cup winner Go Dreaming ($9) however who had a half-length to spare over the Jason Holder-ridden Gamblin’ Guru ($6.50), coming off a win over 2000m at the track on May 2, while long-priced roughie Clarify ($41) finished off the trifecta in third ahead of the beaten favourite.
