A capacity field of sixteen fillies will line up...
One of the key support races on The Goodwood Day program in Adelaide this Saturday is the 2015 RA Lee Stakes for the milers, betting tips on the set weights plus penalties clash detailed below.
Originally a final field of 13 was to face off in this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Hughes Chauffeured Limousines R A Lee Stakes (1600m), which is scheduled to jump as Morphettville Race 6 at 3:08pm (local time).
The early scratching of #9 Tristram’s Sun however sees a dozen left in the mix, the latest RA Lee Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au led by clear favourite Our Ivanhowe ($2.60).
The money is steady for the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained import who carries the 60kg top weight this weekend with Damien Oliver booked for the ride on the stallion for his first-up start down under.
The next best in the RA Lee Stakes odds are then the early market mover The Bowler ($5.50 into $5) coming off a win over 1700m at Flemington from Anzac Day three weeks ago, the consistent Phillip Stokes-trained City of Adelaide Stakes winner Dylanson ($6) and Peter Moody’s mare Metaphorical ($7.50) second-up after a fourth in that same lead-up.
So do the bookies have the order of the odds right for the RA Lee Stakes result or is there an upset pending from the likes of John Sadler’s recent black type winning filly at the track Japhils ($12)?
#3 Dylanson ($6)
Stokes is in for a big day at home this weekend including in this with his in-form five-year-old who might be drawn wide (10) but has the ability to overcome the draw. His record of late is outstanding with five top three runs since late January including a victory in the Listed CS Hayes (1600m) at this track and distance on March 9, his third in Bendigo’s Golden Mile and a last start victory defeating a number of these in the Listed City Of Adelaide Stakes. Had a better barrier that day but carried 58kg to victory so the drop back to 56kg will suit. Stepping back up to 1600m also works in his favour big time.
#7 The Bowler ($5)
Barrier four draw for this Robert Smerdon-trained four-year-old who has won three of his past four starts. Latest was over Flemington (1700m) three weeks ago, the step back to a mile this weekend looking ideal. Is yet to race in Adelaide but the form back in Melbourne is too good to ignore. Gets the ideal run if he wants it from barrier four with Mark Zahra jumping aboard for the first time since a win over 1400m at Bendigo back on March 21.
#1 Our Ivanhowe ($2.60)
Lots of money coming for the favourite in his first Australian run and certainly deserves respect but looks a little short with the big 60kg top weight. The record over the distance isn’t great, he’s seen it just once before as a maiden back in 2012 when second, but it could suit for the intro to racing down under. Class could prevail and runs well fresh.
