There are a total of 13 female gallopers left in the field for the $115,000 Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) following the early scratching of the Nikki Burke-trained Nautical.

Leading the markets at for Morphettville Race 5 at 2:28pm (local) on Saturday are two equal $4.20 top fancies I Love It and Miss Steele.

John Salanitri saddles-up Melbourne-based Artie Schiller four-year-old I Love It after the in-form mare ran a brave third, beaten only a length behind Miracles Of Life at the track and distance in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) a fortnight ago.

Miss Steele meanwhile has Mark Zahra aboard again after her fourth in the same Group 1 lead-up, Michael Kent’s Statue Of Liberty grey the same margin away from the winner as I Love It as they fought for the final minor placing in a photo finish for third.

The markets also have Lee & Anthony Freedman’s last start Caulfield winner Hazard ($6), runner-up in that same 1100m lead-up from May 2 Miss Promiscuity ($6.50) and the Michael Kent-trained five-year-old Danestroem ($9.50) at single figures.

So will one of the top fancies in betting get the job done for the punters or is there an upset Proud Miss Stakes result on the card from a longer priced hopeful such as Team Freedman’s other runner Minaj ($12) who took on the boys when third in the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes (1100m) in Adelaide last time out?

#2 I Love It ($4.20)

While there’s plenty of value chances in the race, can’t look past I Love It after her brave third in the Robert Sangster here last time out. That followed a string of nice runs from this up-and-comer who has won four of her 10 starts to date. The latest win was back in February, and she’ was also runner-up in a Group 3 at Randwick on March 7 over the 1200m. This is her pet distance and after the poke around the track last time out think she’ll be improving and hard to beat even from the nasty outside barrier.

#4 Minaj ($12)

The price is good for this Commands four-year-old who was runner-up at Caulfield over 1100m two back before the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes third here on May 2. The two weeks between runs looks ideal, she’s against similar class but just the female gallopers this time and is drawn the same sort of gate. Glen Boss jumps on and think she can run another place off a good lead-up run.

#7 Nadeem Lass ($12)

Ideal barrier three draw for Robbie Griffith’s Nadeem five-year-old who has had a freshen-up on the back of her third over 1400m at Caulfield in early April. Back down in distance here but that’ll suit fresh, which she runs well at, and won the Gold Bracelet at Bendigo before that. Group 3 placegetter in both Tassie and Melbourne earlier in the autumn so the class is top notch and the distance should be a non-issue here with the break between runs.
