This year’s $115,000 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) originally drew 15 final acceptors but the early scratching of the widely-drawn Kawabata (13) leaves 14 in the mix for Morphettville Race 3 at 1:08pm.

Leading the latest SA Fillies Classic odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is Damien Oliver’s mount Bahamas ($2.25) who is drawn in gate eight and comes off a string of good lead-up runs including her Adelaide debut on May 2 when third to Delicacy in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m).

The form of that held up with the Perth-trained winning going on to take out last weekend’s SA Derby, something the bookies are predicting to work in Bahamas’ favour this week.

Close second favourite at $2.80 is then Ungrateful Ellen who has work to do from the outside barrier, Craig Williams booked to ride the Robert Smerdon-trained Grey Swallow filly whose latest run was a fifth in the Schweppes Oaks.

So will the dominant duo in the SA Fillies Classic betting markets run the quinella or is there an upset on the agenda from the likes of the visiting New Zealand-trained market mover Snow Secret ($10) or even Monopole ($17) who comes off a win over 2122m at Gawler from May 7?

1st

#1 Bahamas ($2.25)

She’s the favourite at an easing price and the form is too good to ignore. She has run top three in all five of her most recent runs including a brave third behind subsequent SA Derby winner Delicacy in the Oaks here a fortnight ago. She was only 1.5 lengths off the winner there and should be on the improve going out over more distance for the first time. Ticks plenty of boxes, especially consistency-wise, and is dropping back in class so can handle these if she handles the metres.

2nd

#8 Cinnamon Carter ($17)

Good value in this filly drawn one inside of Bahamas, the Robbie Laing-trained daughter of Al Maher having won up to 2060m previously. That is her only victory from 16 starts however and happened at Cranbourne two back in late April. Her lead-up into this was over 2000m at Flemington last Saturday so she is on the short back-up, probably can’t win but looks a nice Place bet as she deserves her shot in black-type company.

3rd

#4 Snow Secret ($10)

Money is coming for the Kiwi raider having her second start down under after a luckless fifth over 2000m at Caulfield two back. She won two on the trot back home before that and will improve after the Melbourne run. The distance should suit and she has time to overcome the double digit barrier, and she’ll appreciate running against her own kind this start.
