Our Ivanhowe Tops 2015 RA Lee Stakes Field & Odds

Lee & Anthony Freedman’s German import Our Ivanhowe carries the number one saddlecloth, top weight and has also opened top of the RA Lee Stakes 2015 odds forth the mile showdown at Morphettville Racecourse on The Goodwood Day.

Due to run as Race 6 at 3:08pm (local), this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Hughes Chauffeured Limousines R A Lee Stakes (1600m) features a final field of 13 hopefuls including Soldier Hollow stallion Our Ivanhowe.

The Group 1 winning stayer won over 2400m back in Germany last November in elite level company before a last start sixth in the Japan Cup.

He hasn’t raced since but is set to debut down under in the RA Lee Stakes for his new Flemington-based trainers.

Despite the long run between races and the fact Our Ivanhowe hasn’t won over less than 2200m in his five victories from 10 starts, the bookmakers are taking no chances and have the former European at $2.70 through Ladbrokes.com.au to win this weekend.

There are three other single figure hopes in the latest RA Lee Stakes betting markets including the ultra-consistent Robert Smerdon-trained The Bowler ($5) who is drawn a treat in barrier four for jockey Mark Zahra.

A winner of three of his past four starts, Smerdon’s Testa Rossa four-year-old comes off a 1700m win at Flemington on Anzac Day and is up in class for his Adelaide debut on the weekend.

Also under $10 for the win are the local Phillip Stokes-trained Dylanson ($6) out wide in gate 10 with Clare Lindop riding and Metaphorical ($7.50) racing second-up from barrier two with Glen Boss booked for the ride.

Five-year-old Dylanson has been in red hot form since the start of the year with a host of top three runs in black type company including his Listed CS Hayes (1600m) win over this track and distance on March 9, his third in the Listed Golden Mile (1600m) at Bendigo and his victory on April 25 in the Listed City Of Adelaide Stakes (1400m).

He carried 58kg to victory that day and will appreciate a drop to 56kg on the weekend as the gelding shoots for his third win from four starts over the 1600m at Morphettville.

Metaphorical meanwhile gets in on the 54kg minimum, Peter Moody’s improving Dylan Thomas mare coming off a first-up fourth to Dylanson in the City Of Adelaide Stakes at Morphettville Parks, which was her first run in Adelaide.

Outside the hopes under double-figures are a number of other livewire chances at generous prices including the rails-drawn Japhils ($12) who won the Listed Nitschke Stakes (1400m) before a last start fifth in the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes (1600m) on May 2, Michael Moroney’s Saint Or Sinner ($14) and the Jake Stephens-trained Group 3 winner Gris Caro ($15).
