Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
14 two-year-old fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Listed Woodlands Stakes (1100m) at Scone Racecourse, highlighted by the inclusion of some of the country’s most exciting racing prospects.
Seagrove is yet to appear on course competitively but has amazingly opened as and maintained position on the top line of 2015 Woodlands Stakes betting alongside Helsingor and Flippant at a quote of $5.50 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
Having performed well in two Sydney barrier trials in recent months, the Seagrove will leave from the ideal barrier 5 and is sure to be offered a gem of a ride from leading hoop James McDonald.
Helsingor has not been seen at the races since late January, but is reportedly in great condition ahead of her competitive return in the 2015 Woodlands Stakes.
Displaying a keen turn of foot to finish a close second to Ragazzo Del Corsa in the Better Beyond Plate (1000m) on debut on January 10th, the daughter of Dane Shadow was unlucky to be checked early in the running of the Group 3 Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) on January 26th but recovered well enough to finish fourth.
Charged with carrying a race-high 58kgs, Helsingor will also need luck in running if to break through for a maiden race win on Saturday from barrier 11.
Flippant opened at a quote of $6 in 2015 Woodlands Stakes betting markets but has received the greatest market share of attention from punters who have instilled the two-year-old as clear market mover at current odds.
Taking out the Red Crown Handicap (900m) by close to five lengths on debut in early March, Flippant progressed to fourth in the TAB Rewards Plate (100m) on March 25th before placing a close second to Sempre Libera in the McGrath Estate Agents Plate (1200m) on April 1st.
While likely having to go back from jump after drawing barrier 12, Flippant will carry just 57kgs in the 2015 Woodlands Stakes and is sure to be further boosted by leading jockey Hugh Bowman.
Harlem River is also yet to appear on course competitively but figures as the sole occupant of the second line of Woodlands Stakes betting at even $6 odds following two strong barrier trial wins at Randwick through March.
Godolphin’s second entrant, Lycia, is yet to finish worse than second over a strong racing career start and arguably offers the best value for money in 2015 Woodlands Stakes betting markets at $7.50 odds for success.
While undoubtedly facing the biggest test of her career in what will be her maiden black type appearance, the daughter of Medaglia D’Oro beat a classy field to the line in a two-year-old handicap race on April 18th before placing a close second to Skyclad in the Sporting Chance 2.y.o Handicap (1100m) last weekend.
Only three runners carrying winning form into the 2015 Woodlands Stakes and amazingly all are currently offered at double figure odds for success; Miss Antaeus ($10), Stilettoed Vixen ($26) and Light On Ice ($26).
