2015 Sunshine Coast Guineas Field: Worthy Cause Draws Rails

Worthy Cause has come up trumps with the inside alley for the Sunshine Coast Guineas 2015 this weekend in Queensland, John Zielke’s local hope after his third win on the trot.

After a win at Doomben over 1350m in April 18, the Choisir colt travelled to the Gold Coast on Anzac Day and enjoyed a big two length victory over Upham in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m).

Now he runs again this Saturday in the $125,000 Group 3 XXXX Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m), the set weights clash attracted a capacity field of three-year-olds at final acceptance stage.

There are 18 confirmed runners in the Sunshine Coast Guineas field this Queensland Winter Racing Carnival plus the Chris Anderson-trained sole emergency Sam De Hero drawn gate seven.

The big winner in the Sunshine Coast Guineas barrier draw with gate one, Worthy Cause has his regular rider Justin Stanley in the saddle again as he looks for just his second win at this third start at the Sunshine Coast track.

Also drawing well for the weekend’s classic are the likes of the Lindsay Gough-trained last start Ipswich winner Right Or Wrong (barrier two), Shaune Ritchie’s New Zealand raider Redeem Code (barrier three) for his Australian debut, the John O’Shea-trained Group 1 performed filly Abduction (barrier four) and Matthew Dunn’s Husson gelding Buckin The Blues (barrier five).

Just outside of those runners in the line-up is the lightly-raced Gai Waterhouse-trained Skylimit in gate six with Tegan Harrison booked for the ride on the Flying Spur colt.

Skylimit has had just the three starts to date, running top three in all of those including a second behind Jumbo Prince in the Toowoomba Guineas (1625m) last start on May 2.

Not as lucky in the barriers but leading out the field with the number one saddlecloth is the Michael Moroney-trained Merion coming off back-to-back thirds.

The Flemington based O’Reilly gelding ran sixth to Wandjina in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington in early March before a third to Hauraki in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill and then a last start third to Hi World in Randwick’s Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) on April 18.

Also out in double digits but with genuine claims at the title include the Helen Page-trained Rhodin Drive (barrier 11) coming off a win at the Gold Coast from April 29, improving Jet Spur gelding Eljetem (barrier 13) from the Bruce Hill stables, Liam Birchley’s imported New Zealand filly Elusive Catch (barrier 14) in her debut run down under and Winx out in barrier 15.

Chris Waller’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks-bound filly Winx has suffered an early blow with her wide barrier but is still likely to be one of the top fancies in Sunshine Coast Guineas betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Larry Cassidy jumps aboard the daughter of Street Cry who was last seen running second to Gust Of Wind in the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11, form she’s out to repeat when dropped back to the mile this weekend ahead of the Oaks on May 30 at Doomben.
