Vain Queen has not had a consistent rider at any point of her 15 start career so far but was ridden by notable hoop Nick Hall in her two most recent start; a close second in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) before a disappointing performance for seventh in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) over course and distance a fortnight ago.

Understandably thrilled to have picked up the ride on the daughter of Artie Schiller for the 2015 The Goodwood, Mallyon told AAP she is confident the conditions of the race will play directly into her strengths and is hopeful she will partner the talented mare to her maiden Group 1 victory.

“It’s a great thrill to get the ride especially on a live chance as well,” Mallyon said.

“She was unlucky I thought not to win last start.

“Hopefully we can draw a nice barrier and the horse seems to be going really well.

“It would be lovely to see her win a Group One as she really deserves it.”

Trainer John Sadler conceded he passed down the wrong directions to Hall prior to the Robert Sangster but is pleased to have booked Mallyon to take The Goodwood ride.

“The pace in the Sangster wasn’t on,” Sadler said.

“Not that I like riding her that way but I should have taken it up and gone forward.”

A standout performer for Sadler over the2014 racing calendar, Vain Queen won a pair of Victorian sprints through late winter, including the All Victorian Sprint Series Heat 8 (1100m); the only occasion Mallyon has partnered the mare competitively so far.

Unlucky to run fourth in each of the Listed All Victoria Sprint Series Final (1200m), Group 3 Stakes (1100m) and Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) through spring, the mare out of Our Teneriffe ended her campaign in the best way possible when taking out the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m) by close to four lengths on November 6th.

The 2015 Goodwood final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released on Tuesday.
