Black Heart Bart Ready for The Goodwood Test

Black Heart Bart has been a standout performer in his native Perth since debuting to racing in late 2013 and is reportedly a picture of health leading into his debut at the highest level in Saturday’s Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville.

Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times through his eighteen career starts so far, Black Heart Bart is undefeated in four competitive appearances this year and has not been seen at the races since posting an incredible six length victory in the Listed Bunbury Stakes (1400m) despite carrying 61kgs on March 8th.

Thrilled with the condition of the four-year-old, trainer Vaughn Sigley is confident the Blackfriars gelding is more than capable of success in the 2015 The Goodwood but conceded he is unsure how his stable star will perform should the Morphettville track experience rain.

“Basically we had to be kicked out of the nest to see how we can perform against higher-level horses,” Sigley told The Advertiser of Black Heart Bart’s most recent triumph.

“He’s probably just one of those horses that has taken a bit of time to mature and come on … bit he’s there now.

“It took him two and a half days to get over here but he hasn’t taken any ill effects from the trip.

“The last few days in particularly he’s been pigrooting around and letting us know he’s feeling good.

“Hopefully we don’t get too much more rain. He’s never raced on a wet track … so you just wouldn’t know how he’d handle it.”

Unlucky to miss the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) with a minor ailment during the Perth Summer Carnival, Black Heart Bart responded well in taking out the Listed WA Stakes (1200m) a week later.

Comfortably winning the Listed Summer Scorcher (1000m) on January 1st, the gelding out of Sister Theresa repeated the dose in each of the Listed Cyril Flower Stakes (1200m) and Listed Pinjarra Classic (1300m) leading into his most recent triumph. is currently offering the best 2015 The Goodwood odds, for which Black Heart Bart has been backed into tied-favouritism alongside Hucklebuck; currently available at a quote of $4.80 for success.
