2015 The Goodwood Final Field and Barrier Draw

17 talented sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s featured Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville, highlighted by the inclusion of several previous winners at the highest level of Australian racing.

Classy local Hucklebuck is yet to appear on course competitively in 2015 but will be particularly difficult to beat in the 2015 The Goodwood after drawing the ideal barrier 3.

Posting eight wins and a further three minors through only 13 career starts so far, Hucklebuck was unlucky to miss his major racing goals through the 2014 edition of the Autumn Carnival through injury, but ran a credible sixth in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) in a solitary winter start.

Securing consecutive race wins in the Listed Durbridge Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Yellowglen Stakes (1400m) upon resuming in spring, the Elvstroem gelding ended his campaign in the best way possible when taking out the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) on November 8th.

Lucky Hussler will need some luck in running from barrier 11 in the 2015 The Goodwood but has been confirmed to be partnered by regular hoop Glen Boss.

Finding career-best condition since transferring to the care of Darren Weir partway through 2014, Lucky Hussler won the Group 3 Moonga Stakes (1400m) before placing a close second to Hucklebuck in the Emirates Stakes most notably through spring.

Displaying an exceptional turn of foot late to win the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) first-up this time, the Husson gelding was luckless when blocked for a run and sixth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) most recently but is sure to relish a step-back to 1200m on Saturday.

Talented mares Vain Queen and Gregers have both returned to racing in good form this time and will look to take advantage of low weights in the 2015 Goodwood Handicap on Saturday.

Vain Queen has been confirmed for a rider change in the form of Katelyn Mallyon for the 2015 Goodwood following a disappointing performance for seventh when favourite in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes over course and distance a fortnight ago.

Ending a strong 2014 with success in the Group 3 Mumm Stakes (1100m), the daughter of Artie Schiller returned this time for a credible fourth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) before a close second to Lucky Hussler in the William Reid Stakes.

Gregers appeared home and hosed before being pipped on the line by Miracles Of Life in the Robert Sangster Stakes most recently but is positioned well in barrier 6 to go one better in the 2015 The Goodwood.

Claiming six wins and a further seven minors through 21 career starts, the Commands mare placed second in the Jeep 55 Second Challenge (955m) first-up on March 27th; progressing to third in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) in her only other start prior to the Robert Sangster.

Notable performer It Is Written will leave from the rails draw in the 2015 Goodwood Handicap while sole three-year-old entrant Tudor has been charged with overcoming the wide and awkward barrier 17.
