2015 Dark Jewel Classic Nominations Feature Najoom

After winning the Hawkesbury Guineas in fine style at Rosehill last weekend the Gai Waterhouse-trained Najoom has been nominated for a run this weekend at Scone in the Dark Jewel Classic 2015.

One of two features over the two-day Scone Cup Carnival, this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic (1400m) has attracted a bumper 26 fillies and mares at nomination stage.

Among those is super-consistent Northern Meteor filly Najoom who is yet to finish out of the money in six starts with four wins and two seconds on her record.

Her last start was against the boys when winning the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) in a runaway four length effort at Rosehill only last weekend, Waterhouse keen to put her on the short back-up to try and bag more black type success to see out her autumn preparation.

The only other Dark Jewel nominee coming off a win is the Anthony Cummings-trained Markane filly Like Xena who won over 1250m at Canterbury on April 29.

Last year John O’Shea prepared the Dark Jewel Classic quinella with Seaside (1st) and Aerobatics (2nd), the now Godolphin-based horseman back with two hopes in 2015.

O’Shea has nominated for four-year-old Street Cry mares Transfer and Copy who ran a disappointing seventh in the Group 3 Darley Crown (1300m) last Saturday.

The best out of the Darley Crown nominated again for this weekend’s feature for fillies and mares is the Gerald Ryan-trained Peace Force.

A five-year-old daughter of Bernardini, Peace Force was runner-up to stablemate Solicit in the Darley Crown on the back of a second to Mamwaazel in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf (1600m) at Gosford back in January this year.

Ryan confirmed plans this week to AAP to take both Solicit and Peace Force to Queensland for a shot at the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at the Gold Coast on June 20.

He officially ruled Solicit out of a Dark Jewel Classic in favour of a run in the $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 23, which could also turn out to be the case for Peace Force.

“She (Solicit) left a bit of feed overnight so that has confirmed she won’t go to Scone,” Ryan said on Monday.

“She and Peace Force will probably go to the Glenlogan Park Stakes in Brisbane and then the Tatt’s Tiara.”

Also top three in the Darley Crown and nominated for Saturday is the Chris Waller-trained Calming Influence who ran a first-up third in the rescheduled feature traditionally held at Hawkesbury.

Waller has a total of four Dark Jewel Classic entries this year with his other hopes being All Cerise, the returning Champagne Cath and Belle Of The Turf winner Mamwaazel who ran two lengths away sixth in the Darley Crown last weekend.

Other notable Dark Jewel Classic nominations include Group 2 Sapphire Stakes third placegetter Fine Bubbles, Peter Moody’s Darley Crown fourth placegetter Peron and fifth past the post in the same race Vergara who is the second Anthony Cummings entry.
