Team Snowden Score 2015 Juanmo Stakes Quinella

Peter & Paul Snowden came up trumps in the third on Doomben Cup Day in Brisbane preparing I’ve Got The Looks and Dublin Lass to run the quinella in the Juanmo Stakes 2015.

All the money on the $100,000 Listed Designline Graphics Juanmo Stakes (1200m) for the fillies and mares was on the Tony Gollan-trained Traveston Girl, runner-up in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne during the spring and coming off a first-up third in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) against the boys a fortnight ago.

She and jockey Tegan Harrison were the best out of the barriers from gate three and won the early speed battle from the Rex Lipp-trained Sarisara to lead them around at a cracking pace.

They were absolutely flying in the set weights plus penalties clash, the first 600m run in a sharp 34.33 seconds.

Traveston Girl was being challenged by Lipp’s Red Dazzler filly Sarisara, third in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast on Hollindale Stakes Day last time out, and it just took the dash out of the favourite’s finish.

She led them at the 300m mark through the turn and into the straight before the Snowden stablemates started their runs in earnest.

Over the closing couple of hundred metres last start Silk Stocking winning Choisir mare I’ve Got The Looks charged down the middle with the fellow Snowden-trained Dublin Lass, also second up after a winning start to the season but at Randwick on April 18, making up lots of ground down the outside.

They ran down Traveston Girl ($2.70) who held on to finish third on the outside of the rails-drawn I’ve Got The Looks ($4.50) who drew clear to split the favourite and the third-placed O’Reilly four-year-old and late market mover at Dublin Lass ($4.50).

Shinn, who also won the previous race aboard the Queensland Derby-bound Sadler’s Lake for Chris Waller, was emotional after the win as I’ve Got The Looks was previously prepared by the late Guy Walter for who Shinn rode last year’s Doomben Cup winner Streama to victory.

“It’s very special to win on this horse as Guy used to train her,” he said.

“To win on a horse that he formerly trained is a pretty special feeling.

“Sure he’s looking down with me today.”

In the Junamo Shinn gave the winner a perfectly timed ride, cuddling her on the rail with no pressure giving her plenty left to run them down in the end.

“She keeps raising the bar this horse,” Shinn said of I’ve Got The Looks.

“The speed was genuine and the barrier was crucial to her chances especially going up (four kilograms in weight (on last start).

“I got a great drag along from one of the fancied runners and that was Traveston Girl.

“But she did the rest.

“A special mention to the Snowden camp who have her performing well.

“It’s a great job for those guys.”

The five-year-old Juanmo Stakes winner has now taken out eight of her 19 career starts for over $400,000 in prize money and could be set for bigger things this carnival after last year’s Silk Stocking – Juanmo Stakes double winner Srikandi put the writing on the wall 12 months ago.

She backed up from those two wins to take out the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) and then run third in Queensland’s richest race, the $2 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.

I’ve Got The Looks isn’t currently nominated for the 2015 Stradbroke Handicap, held on June 6 at Doomben, but the $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes on Doomben 10,000 Day in a fortnight is a definite next-up option.
