Doomben 10,000 winner English could be racing...
The card may officially read Doomben Cup Day but the BTC Cup 2015 threatens to steal the show at Doomben Racecourse this afternoon, late mail tips for the lucrative sprint showdown found below.
Two Group 1s headline a top day’s racing for the first major Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival meeting today in sunny Queensland, including the $500,000 Group 1 Ubet BTC Cup (1200m) running as Race 8 at 4:07pm (AEST).
Originally a final field of 16 was set to face off in the clash that is the first stepping stone towards the Doomben 10,000 and then the Stradbroke Handicap on June 6 that is worth $2 million.
Two early injury-related scratchings however leaves 14 in the mix with Trust In A Gust and Time For War both out this weekend, but their trainers confident they’ll bounce back in time for another Group 1 run before the carnival’s end.
BTC Cup betting at Ladbrokes.com.au is firmly led by Our Boy Malachi, the flying Team Hawkes-trained Sydney raider backed like there’s nothing else in the race.
After opening at around $9 to win his 18th race at career start number 20, the Top Echelon six-year-old has been smashed right into $2.60.
But does that make him the late mail tip?
Sure, he’ll be hard to beat and is in flying form but racetrack whispers suggest that the ‘Rockhampton Rocket’ could be vulnerable in his opening Group 1 performance.
The next best in the markets is another genuine mover the money has come for, Srikandi at $4 as she looks to go back-to-back in Queensland after a first-up win in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago.
She’s got awesome form in Brisbane, including the Stradbroke third last winter, and is undefeated in five runs over the distance she’s over again second-up today.
They are some imposing facts that suggest her and top Brisbane hoop Damian Browne can overcome a wide gate today and score an upset BTC Cup result against Our Boy Malachi.
What else will be in the finish to lock into your BTC Cup trifecta tips?
The only other hope at single figures is the three-year-old Paul Messara-trained Scissor Kick drawn a treat in gate three and backed in from $10 to $8 to join Your Song (2013) and Sea Siren (2012) as recent three-year-old BTC Cup winners.
Scissor Kick hasn’t won since a Group 3 at Rosehill in February but the Redoute’s Choice colt’s fourth in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 18 was good.
He was beaten only a length and is dropping back in distance here boasting three wins from five previous 1200m runs.
The other top hopes according to the bookies at Ladbrokes.com.au, who are offering a Bonus Bet if your BTC Cup runner finishes second or third today, include the Kiwi raider Sacred Star ($12) and Peter Moody’s excellent young filly Bring Me The Maid ($14) who is tipped to get a gun run drawn one inside of Srikandi today.
So visit Ladbrokes.com.au now to get in on the late mail BTC Cup 2015 tips at the right price and bet with confidence with their Bonus Bet offer on the sprint classic!
