Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A top line-up of early Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival Group features take place at Doomben Racecourse on Saturday including the 2015 BRC Sprint, betting tips for which are found below.
There are 13 gallopers in the field for this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Darley BRC Sprint (1350m), the handicap clash due to run as Doomben Race 6 at 2:47pm (AEST).
Of the 13 in the BRC Sprint betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au the favourite at $3.70, in from $4, is the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Charlie Boy drawn a treat in gate two for jockey Blake Shinn.
The four-year-old ha won just two of his 15 starts to date but comes off a first-up fifth in the Hall Mark Stakes in Sydney, which produces Saturday’s Group 1 BTC Cup favourite Our Boy Malachi.
Also in the mix at single figures are the likes of the early market mover Estonian Princess ($4.80), Lindsay Park’s in-form runner Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($5) and the Joe Pride-trained Group 2 winner Rock Sturdy ($6) in the outside alley looking to atone for a first-up eighth in the Hall Mark three weeks ago.
So follow the bookies or tip an upset BRC Sprint result from an outside chance such as the local hope with the experience at this track and distance Gundy Spirit ($10)?
#6 Estonian Princess ($4.80)
Happy to follow the money trail here and tip the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel mare who is tipped to improve on a first-up second in the Silk Stocking on the Gold Coast. This distance is ideal for her (7-2-2-0), she’s Group 1 performed from the spring and will be fitter second-up and drawn to run a top race with barrier four and Kerrin McEvoy riding on the 54kg minimum.
#3 Fast ‘N’ Rocking ($5)
So many livewire hopes but this is one of the standouts for sure. His recent form places him very nicely in the race, the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained four-year-old coming off a fourth in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 18 behind Our Boy Malachi, the form of which is set to stack up this weekend in Queensland.
#10 Gundy Spirit ($10)
At double figures there’s nice value in Tony Gollan’s Jet Spur four-year-old who ran third in the Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago. Before that he won at this track and distance boosting his gun record over the 1350m at Doomben (6-3-2-0). Those are imposing stats and the experience here could work in his favour, barrier six is also good with options for jockey Tim Bell to take.
