Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
There are two Group status races on the Morphettville card this weekend in Adelaide including the Eucalse Stakes 2015, betting tips for the three-year-olds’ feature found below.
Set to run as SA Derby Day Race 6 at 3:13pm (SA time), this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) field features 13 hopefuls and the current markets at Ladbrokes.com.au are led by Éclair Choice ($4.60) after the local galloper’s Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) win last time out.
In a fairly open Euclase Stakes betting market this autumn five of the Phillip Stokes-trained favourite’s rivals are also under double figures for the win on Saturday.
Among the main dangers according to the bookies are the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Group 3 winner in Melbourne Get The Nod ($5.50), Patrick Payne’s last start Caulfield winner Husson Eagle ($6.50) in the outside alley for jockey Steven Arnold to overcome and the progressive Greg Eurell-trained We’ve Got This ($6.50) drawn far better in gate four for Damien Oliver.
So will one of the top-rated hopes get the job done or is there value to be found backing the likes of the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained colt Nicoscene ($8) or the returning market mover Awesome Rock ($9) for an upset Euclase Stakes result?
#7 Husson Eagle ($6.50)
Payne’s Husson gelding has the wide draw but time and class to overcome. Really good form during the spring including the fifth to superstar Brazen Beau in the Group 1 at Flemington. Returned at Caulfield in early April over 1000m for a half-length win and gets a go up in distance and quality of rivals here for the Adelaide debut. First-up’s effort was good and the extra metres will suit. If he’s got it in the tank at the end after getting across then second-up will be fit and firing.
#1 Éclair Choice ($4.60)
Deserving favourite and does deserve respect from the midfield draw in a tough race where the in-form Stokes-trained California Dane gelding will be putting in 100%. Has excellent record so far over the 1200m (4-1-2-1) and further including the Bendigo Guineas second (1400m) two back and the 1100m win in the Redelvea. Over this track and distance the local boasts two seconds from two starts so the form and record are just waiting to hold up again.
#8 Awesome Rock ($9)
We haven’t seen this Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Fastnet Rock colt since last September when he closed with a third in the Group 3 Guineas Prelude. His form leading up to that was excellent and included a fourth in the Group 2 Danehill at Flemington. Kicked things off last campaign running third to Chivalry in the McNeil Stakes and think first-up will be a top three chance again here even off the lengthy break.
