Éclair Choice Tops 2015 Euclase Stakes Field

The Phillip Stokes-trained Redelva Stakes winner Éclair Choice has been accepted to shoot for his second black-type win on the trot at Morphettville Racecourse this weekend in the Euclase Stakes 2015.

Set to run as Adelaide Race 6 at 3:13pm (local time), this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) is the key support race on the SA Derby Day program on Saturday and features a final field of 13 three-year-olds.

In the number one saddlecloth and drawn in gate seven with Dom Tourneur to ride, Éclair Choice has run top two in his past seven starts including the listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) win at the same track on April 18.

Before that he was runner-up in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) and so Saturday’s 1200m distance should be ideal, Éclair Choice boasting a nice record over it (4-1-2-1).

The two other last start winners in the Euclase Stakes field this autumn are then the Patrick Payne-trained Husson Eagle in the outside alley and Concentrate for John O’Shea.

Steven Arnold rides Husson gelding Husson Eagle who is Group 1 performed, having run fifth to Brazen Beau in last November’s Coolmore Stud Stakes, and was last seen winning over 1000m at Caulfield on April 4.

Concentrate has apprentice hoop Patrick Moloney aboard on Saturday as the lightly-raced Lonhro gelding shoots for his third win on the trot, his last being over 1200m at Cranbourne on April 17.

A host of other gallopers also come off nice lead-up runs including the Lee & Anthony Freedman-trained Nicoscene and Silent Whisper.

Nicconi colt Nicoscene won over the distance at Moonee Valley two back before a Caulfield third on April 18, while the Lloyd Kennewell-trained local Silent Whisper comes off a Redevla third place behind Éclair Choice.

The galloper won three on the trot at Morphettville Parks during the spring before the first-up third in stakes company and should be improving second-up on Saturday.

Kennewell has also accepted for Get The Nod, a winner of two of his four starts to date including the Group 3 Vain Stakes in Melbourne last August who ran sixth last time out in the Redelva.

Other notable Euclase Stakes hopefuls this weekend including the Tony McEvoy-trained Risen From Doubt on the rails for jockey Luke Nolen, Group 2 runner-up Awesome Rock one wider in gate two in his first run since last September and Idatwo (barrier three) coming off a Redelva Stakes second.
