2015 Euclase Stakes Nominations Feature Éclair Choice

Ace local horseman Phillip Stokes will shoot for back-to-back black-type wins this Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival with his smart three-year-old Éclair Choice the headline nominee for Saturday’s Euclase Stakes 2015.

Run on SA Derby Day at Morphettville Racecourse, this year’s $250,000 Group 2 Euclase Stakes (1200m) attracted 21 nominations, including Stokes’s in-form California Dane gelding Éclair Choice.

Runner-up to Sentinum in the Listed Bendigo Guineas (1400m) during a Victorian raid in March, the up-and-comer was last seen posting a tidy one and a quarter-length win in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) at Morphettville on April 18.

He is now nominated to step back up to 1200m for the Euclase over a track and distance he has recorded two seconds from as many runs over to date.

The horses that finished two-three behind Éclair Choice in the Redelva are also nominated to back up in Saturday’s Group 2 with the Trevor Dansie & Natasha Storr-trained runner-up Idatwo and Silent Whisper from the Lloyd Kennewell stables.

Captain Gerrard gelding Idatwo won at Oakbank two back before his second last time out, which was the youngster’s first look at further than 1050m.

Silent Whisper meanwhile was beaten one and a half lengths in the Redelva first-up in the I Am Invincible gelding’s first run since posting three straight wins at Morphettville Parks over the spring, his winning form going right up to 1400m.

Kennewell has also nominated for his U S Ranger gelding Get The Nod, the Group 3 Vain Stakes winner (1100m) at Caulfield last August looking to improve on his first-up sixth in the Redelva when beaten only two lengths.

One galloper that failed to make an impression in the Redelva running 13th of the 16 runners was the Richard Jolly-trained Alcobro who atoned with a much improved third last time out on April 25 behind Japhils in the listed Nitschke Stakes (1400m).

A host of exciting interstate raiders are also nominated for the Euclase Stakes this weekend including the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Awesome Rock.

The Fastnet Rock colt hasn’t raced since September last year when third to Rich Enuff in the Group 3 Guineas Prelude (1400m), which rounded out a super campaign that was ended prematurely.

He’s been in the paddock since but is now nominated for a return in at Morphettville, which will be his first Adelaide run if accepted.

Other notable visitors include the John O’Shea-trained Lonhro gelding Concentrate who comes off back-to-back wins in Victoria, Patrick Payne’s Group 1 performed Husson Eagle last seen winning over 1000m at Caulfield on April 4, the Peter Gelagotis-trained Illustrious Lad who has won his past two on the trot, Ballarat’s Magic Millions Guineas winner Murt The Flirt and stakes winning Street Cry filly Pittsburgh Flyer.

See below for the full Euclase Stakes 2015 nominations, the final field and barriers set for release on Wednesday.
