Typing Posts Upset Win in Dalrello Stakes

Rank outsider Typing has posted a big upset in the first black type race at Toowoomba this afternoon; displaying a keen turn of foot in the final straight to take out the Listed Dalrello Stakes (1200m) with complete ease.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Jim Byrne settled Typing in prime position within the field of 10 and allowed early leaders Jam Toast, Sonador’s Princess and Red Knot to set a noticeably quick pace towards the bend.

Finding the final straight somewhat wide and with plenty to do, the two-year-old son of Sebring calmly pressed forward before exploding in the final 200m; reaching the races leaders and comfortably jogging clear to hit the line more than a length in the clear of clear punters’ pick In His Stride; Jam Toast maintaining a good enough run to hang on for third.

Typing has completed just four starts for trainer Stuart Kendrick since debuting in mid-march, and entered the 2015 Dalrello Stakes off the back of a commendable performance for third behind Montana Star and Lady No More in the Racing Retro Handicap (1350m) on April 4th.

Debuting for a luckless seventh at his home Caloundra course on March 14th, Typing placed third in the Channel 7 Handicap (1200m) at Ipswich in his only other start prior to this afternoon’s success.

Adding a fourth minor place finish to an eight start career which has also included one victory, In His Stride has stamped his claims as a serious two-year-old contestant leading into the major races of the Brisbane Winter Carnival.

Jam Toast also continued a commendable race record in finishing third in the 2015 Dalrello Stakes and remains yet to finish outside the first three over four competitive starts.

Debuting for a near three length win in the Vanderfield Maiden Plate (1000m), the Jet Spur colt returned for the paddock for a brief freshen up following a credible third in the Ultiqua Resorts Handicap (1000m); returning to the winner’s circle over 900m at the Gold Coast on April 11th.
