2015 DC McKay Stakes Betting Tips

Rounding out the Adelaide Autumn Racing Carnival’s Robert Sangster Stakes Day action at Morphettville Racecourse this weekend is the DC McKay Stakes 2015 for the sprinters, betting tips for the handicap clash detailed below.

Thermal Current

There are 11 hopefuls left in the field for this year’s $115,000 Group 3 Seven News DC McKay Stakes (1100m) following the early scratching of the Doug Harrison-trained Tudor (9).

Leading the latest DC McKay Stakes betting odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the rails-drawn Yesterday’s Songs in from $3.80 to $3.70 to post back-to-back wins this time in.

Michael Moroney’s four-year-old won over this distance at Geelong at the start of April, and three weeks on he’ll make his black-type debut in the DC McKay looking to salute from the punters as he enjoys a drop back from 60.5kg to the 55kg minimum on Saturday.

The biggest dangers according to the bookies are then Dwayne Dunn’s mount Thermal Current ($5), the in-form Streetcar Isabelle ($5.50) after her third straight win and the market mover Minaj ($6.50 into $6).

So will one of the single-figure hopes salute or is there value to be found in an upset from the likes of last start RN Irwin Stakes winner Daytona Grey ($16) or the Richard Jolly-trained Karacatis ($18) who was runner-up to Essay Raider in this race 12 months ago?

#5 Thermal Current ($5)

Plenty of boxes ticked by Peter Moody’s Melbourne raider here who is one of the fastest out the gates and setting the speed in this. Will be second-up on Saturday after the Exceed And Excel four-year-old returned on April 18 with a nice second, beaten less than a length, by Politeness in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield. Second-up his record is solid and the distance suits, so expecting improvement and another good run at Morphettville where he ran second in black-type company at just his third start back in 2013.

#1 Karacatis ($18)

Good price on offer for the likely improver of the pack, Jolly’s Hussonet six-year-old looking to improve on the first-up RN Irwin Stakes fifth. His record at the track is excellent (16-4-5-3), the distance is his pet (10-4-3-0) and from nine starts over the 1100m at Morphettville he’s won four and run second three times. Second-up record is solid (5-1-2-1) and really think he’ll be ready to fire at a juicy offering in the markets.

#6 Streetcar Isabelle ($5.50)

Coming off back-to-back wins, David Jolly’s mare is in top form and won in black-type company at Oakbank last time out. She’s been freshened-up since and is ready to shoot for her third win from as many starts over this distance. The Goolwa-based daughter of Danerich hasn’t raced at the course proper before but has experience at Morphettville Parks and after her all-the-way effort last start, can’t leave her out.
