2015 Hawkesbury Guineas Field Released

A quality line-up of 13 three-year-olds will face off in Saturday’s Hawkesbury Guineas on Gold Cup Day including the highly-rated John O’Shea-trained Federal who is drawn in a double digit gate for the showdown.

Set to run as Hawkesbury Race 7 at 4:00pm (AEST), this year’s $150,000 Group 3 Blacktown Workers Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m) is shaping up as a top race with Godolphin’s in-form hope Federal out wide in gate 10 for jockey James McDonald.

A winner of two of his three runs this time in, the Medaglia D’Oro gelding is a gun over the 1400m with two wins and a third over the distance including his victory last time out in the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) in the wet at Randwick on April 11.

He won by one and a half lengths that day on the back of a Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) second with McDonald riding on a Heavy (8) track, but the horse has proved just as effective on Good-rated ground as well.

Third in the South Pacific Classic, the best fancied filly taking on the boys in Saturday’s Hawkesbury Guineas is Ygritte for Gerald Ryan.

Sam Clipperton jumps aboard the daughter of Snitzel this weekend replacing Tim Clark in the saddle, Clark having ridden the gun youngster to victory in the Gosford Guineas and for her South Pacific third in the mud last time out.

Ryan is also represented in the Hawkesbury Guineas field on Saturday by Bachman in gate six, the heaviest weighted runner with 58kg in the set weights plus penalties race.

All American colt Bachman, Group 1 performed when 12th to Hallowed Crown in last year’s Golden Rose, is second-up for the season and needs to improve on a seventh to Dublin Lass in a Benchmark 85 on April 18 at Randwick.

Coming off beat lead-up form are the likes of the Paul Messara-trained Rekindled Power who ran a first-up third to Delectation in the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) in the mud during The Championships last time out and David Vandyke’s Anyaas who is drawn a treat in gate three.

Commands filly Anyaas has won three of her eight starts to date and is tipped to run well after an eye-catching second to Slightly Sweet first-up in the Group 3 James Carr Stakes (1400m) as a $26 outsider on April 18.

Other nice types in the field include improving War Pass filly Mandalong Kiss with the outside alley to overcome, and the nicely drawn duo of Like Xena (barrier two) who comes off a win over 1300m at the Hawkesbury track and the Tony McEvoy-trained Martine with the rails run.

Locally-trained Nicconi filly Martine is yet to finish out of the money with four wins and a third from her five runs to date, and is looking to break her maiden status when she goes up to black-type company for the first time in the Guineas on the back of a second over 1300m at Scone.
