Lumosty Set for 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara

Trainer Robert Smerdon has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by three-year-old Lumosty in the lead-up to her racing return, and is confident she is more than capable of developing into a serious 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) threat this season.

Finishing outside the first three only twice through her seven career starts, Lumosty has not been seen at the races since running on for a credible sixth in the featured Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 6th at Flemington.

Having performed well for second in a strong Cranbourne barrier trial on April 14th, Laing told Racing Victoria he is confident Lumosty will register career-best form to date in her preparation geared towards the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara.

“The track was getting a bit messy by then (Trial 17) but we were pretty happy with how she went,” Smerdon said.

“She’s back on track and is ready to go to the races but we’ve just got to map out a program now heading towards the Tatt’s Tiara.”

Sure to be treated well in the weights as a three-year-old Lumosty looks set to be joined in the 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara field by stable mate Politeness, who has returned to competition in typically positive form this time.

Having placed third in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up before returning to the winner’s circle in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m) most recently on April 18th, Smerdon confirmed Saturday’s Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) at Morphettville will figure as Politeness’ next point of call ahead of a trip to Brisbane.

“I’m really pleased with her since her last run and she’ll line up in good shape on Saturday,” Smerdon said.

“I’d just love to see a bit of rain about for her.”

A standout performer for Smerdon through 2014, Politeness won the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) with ease most notably in autumn; returning in spring for fourth place finishes in the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) and ending her campaign with success in the Group 3 Summond Stakes (1500m) most notably.

The 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by Wednesday, June 17th.
