Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Robert Smerdon’s Blue Diamond failure Thurlow will be out to atone if she’s accepted to run first-up in the Queen Adelaide Stakes 2015 at Morphettville Racecourse this weekend.
The Sebring filly is one of 17 two-year-olds nominated for Saturday’s $80,000 Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m), the juveniles’ sprint one of the black type support acts on Robert Sangster Stakes Day in South Australia.
Thurlow was last seen running a disappointing 11th when outclassed in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne on February 28, before which she won the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Sandown-Hillside three weeks earlier.
She’s been in the paddock since maturing and Smerdon now has her nominated for a return in the Queen Adelaide.
Michael Moroney’s Chosir filly Misty Waters is also after atonement after she lost a rider in her Morphettville debut last start on March 18 in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1050m) on April 18.
Before that she won her opening two career starts in Melbourne, form she’ll be hoping to return to in black type company on Saturday.
Matt Laurie’s Dequetteville Stakes winning Star Witness filly Pearl Star is another headline Queen Adelaide nomination, and will look for back-to-back wins at her sixth career start.
She will face a number of the same rivals she defeated in the Dequetteville including the Phillip Stokes-trained runner-up Typhoon Witness.
Another daughter of Star Witness, Typhoon Witness was beaten one and three-quarter lengths by Pearl Star in her race debut and is sure to have improvement off that for her second career run on Saturday.
Also coming off a win at the track is Leon MacDonald & Andrew Gluyas’s Hard Spun gelding Counter Pulse, a winner of two of his three starts to date.
The most recent of those was a nice one length effort, with Clare Lindop aboard, in a 2YO Handicap on the Morphettville Parks track over 1000m where he defeated Jest For The Road (2nd) and Beau Rivage (3rd), the third placegetter also nominated for the Queen Adelaide.
Peter Moody makes a raid from Melbourne with his Snitzel filly Cool Snitzel who debuted at Moe on April 13 for an 1100m win by two and a half lengths, while Doug Harrison’s daughter of Dane Shadow Stream Ahead also comes a winning debut having taken out a 900m race at Bendigo on April 11.
Other notable Queen Adelaide Stakes nominations include the Sam Pritchard-Gordon-trained Tiz My View who has Group 3 form in Melbourne and comes off a Moe win from last Saturday, and last start Gawler winner Spirited Match representing local horseman Ken Sweeney.
