2015 Silk Stocking Winner I’ve Got The Looks Scores for Snowden

A possible 2015 Tattersall’s Tiara target could be set later this Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival for the classy Peter & Paul Snowden-trained I’ve Got The Looks following her easy Silk Stocking win at the Gold Coast on Hollindale Stakes Day.

The fillies and mares lined-up in the $150,000 Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) and all the money at Ladbrokes.com.au was on the aptly-named Choisir mare I’ve Got The Looks who returned to racing and made her Queensland race debut in the handicap clash.

Last seen running 11th to Avoid Lighting at Randwick back in October last year, the five-year-old improved over the break and won two Sydney trials before her successful Silk Stocking return.

“It’s really good to get some black type with her,” co-trainer Pete Snowden said after the race.

“The luck went her way today.

“It was a good win.”

She was absolutely brilliant out of barrier two for jockey Glen Boss, who was able to get her to settle under two lengths off the leader Sarisara who Jim Cassidy let set the pace.

The pressure was definitely on right from the start, the Rex Lipp-trained Sarisara leading them round shooting for her second straight win at the track and distance.

Mid-field there was a line of four before they went into the straight with 350m to go, I’ve Got The Looks getting the run near the inside.

Boss wasn’t afraid to cut the corner, like he did the race before in the Chariman’s aboard Index Linked, and he saved plenty of ground again.

“She was good enough to get through,” Snowden remarked.

“It saved a heap of ground.”

This time it paid off with a win for Boss as I’ve Got The Looks ($2.70) raced off with 100m to go to finish easily ahead of the Gerald Ryan-trained 58kg top weight Estonian Princess ($8), who flashed home to run second in a brilliant first-up performance having overcome a wide barrier 14 draw to hit the line well with improvement to come.

Three-year-old Red Dazzler filly Sarisara ($17) held for third to finish off the Silk Stocking trifecta in a brave performance.

Having begun like a bomb from the nice barrier, I’ve Got The Looks and Boss did well not to get shuffled back, finding the back of the leader before cutting up on the inside, charging home and kicking off a promising winter campaign in the ‘Sunshine State’.

“She’s very quick and very, very honest,” Snowden said.

While the $500,000 Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) back at the Gold Coast Racecourse on June 20 is the obvious end-of-season Grand Final possibility, Snowden will hold off a decision on that until he sees how she goes over a little more distance in two confirmed targets.

The first of those is on Doomben 10,000 Day in the $150,000 Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) before the $200,000 Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) back at Doomben Racecourse on Stradbroke Handicap Day, June 6.

“I’m not sure (about the Tattersall’s Tiara),” Snowden said.

“There’s two more good races during the carnival and she’ll be back for those.”
