The $125,000 Group 3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m) is a set weights race for promising young staying types heading towards the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival and often the $600,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby (2200m) held this year at Doomben Racecourse on Stradbroke Handicap Day, June 6.

The Melbourne-based Moody is after his share of the winter wins in his home state of Queensland including the Gunsynd on AD Hollindale Stakes Day with Inauguration one of four entries for the stable.

Currently 12 three-year-olds are nominated for the Gunsynd this weekend, entries extended until 9am (AEST) on Tuesday morning.

From Moody’s Sydney stables at Randwick, Authorized gelding Inauguration is a known wet track performer who has won two of his seven starts to date.

He comes off his maiden black type assignment when, at Randwick on April 6, he ran a brave third behind subsequent Group 3 Frank Packer Plate winner Hi World in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on a Heavy (9).

Moody’s other Gunsynd Classic entries this year are Tavistock filly Imperial Lass who ran third to Hi World over the mile in the wet also but at Warwick Farm on March 25, Sebring colt Ulmann coming off a mile win at Sandown-Lakeside and Mastercarftsman gelding Upham who is another last start winner following a Wyong victory over 1600m on April 9.

Also coming off a win over the mile is the Robert Heathcote-trained Nicconi gelding Fusina who, if accepted in the Gunsynd, will shoot for his third victory on the trot.

Two back he saluted at Doomben over 2020m before dropping back to 1600m at the Sunshine Coast displaying his versatility both in distance and on different tracks with the respective wins taking place on a Good (4) and Heavy (10) track.

Heathcote prepared last year’s Gunsynd Classic winner Hopfgarten, a nominee for the Group 2 AD Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at Saturday’s meeting, and along with Fusina has this year also nominated for Gid Up Strop who won over 1630m at Doomben on April 11.

Other notable Gunsynd Classic nominees include the Gerald Ryan-trained Brewery entered for his maiden stakes assignment, progressive Chillin With Dylan from Beaudesert, Group 1 performed Stratum filly Game Of Fame for the Sunshine Coast’s Jason McLachlan, last start Warwick Farm winner Invinzabeel and Group 3 Vo Rogue placegetter at the track last December Worthy Cause who won at Doobmen last Saturday.
