The big one in Sydney on Saturday is the 2015 All Aged Stakes featuring a super line-up of Group 1 winners and below is the exclusive Races.com.au tips on the weight-for-age classic at Royal Randwick.
Sydney Race 6 on Saturday is the $400,000 Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) jumping at 3:45pm (AEST) and featuring 13 hopefuls.
The All Aged Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, who have Best Tote or SP + 20% markets available on both Randwick Group 1s this weekend, has the Team Hawkes-trained TJ Smith Stakes winner Chautauqua ($3) leading the way.
The TJ Smith Stakes has produced four of the past 10 All Aged Stakes winners so the lead-up is right, but the only horse to complete the double in that time was Bentley Biscuit (2008).
Tommy Berry’s mount in barrier one is then followed in the All Aged Stakes odds by the likes of Joe Pride’s track specialist Terravista ($5.50) who is the market mover and Lucky Hussler ($6.50) with work to do from the outside alley 13.
So will the first three in betting run the All Aged Stakes Trifecta on Saturday or can one of the top three-year-olds take it out with Caulfield Guineas champ Shooting To Win ($8) and Gai Waterhouse’s Wandjina ($8) both high up the markets as well?
#3 Terravista ($5.50)
The money is starting to come for Pride’s Darley Classic winner Terravista who has genuine claims to turn the tables on his last start conqueror and Saturday’s favourite Chautauqua when they step out over the extra distance. The Captain Rio five-year-old beat Chautauqua home when they ran the Darley Classic quinella in Melbourne in the spring then finished third in a race the Hawkes’ star finished runner-up in when kicking his autumn off in the Newmarket. In the TJ Smith Stakes he was third again but a notable distance off them. Improvement will come out of that over 1400m, which he has won his only other start over. The key is Randwick. The TJ was his only loss from five runs at the track and from barrier two on Saturday with Bowman staying on there’s lots to like about the market mover.
#2 Dissident ($10)
At double figures there are strong Each Way claims for Peter Moody’s four-time Group 1 winning four-year-old before he retires to serve at stud. He has eased out from an opening quote of $8.50 but can still feature in the finish. Drawn in barrier six, which produced last year’s winner Hana’s Goal (2014), and jockey Jim Cassidy will be on a high after the Sydney Cup win last week. Dissident comes off two thirds and a win this autumn in Melbourne including the Group 1 CF Orr victory over the 1400m two back. Has been to Randwick four times, and won once, so the track is a non-issue. Loves the distance (6-3-2-1) and with that record he can shine. With the right run can score his fifth Group 1 win and stake those Horse of the Year claims.
#1 Chautauqua ($3)
The favourite is short but deserves top billing after his gutsy final-stride win in the TJ Smith Stakes. Gets the run from the inside alley here and should be suited to the 1400m even more than the 1200m he won his first Group 1 trophy over last time out. Lots to like, just hope he didn’t use it all up in the TJ in the mud.
