2015 JHB Carr Stakes Nominations Feature Slightly Sweet

Slightly Sweet is one of a bumper 17 three-year-old fillies nominated for the JHB Carr Stakes 2015 in Sydney this weekend, Jason Coyle’s Group 3 winner dropping back in class off a Group 1 run last month.

The Warwick Farm-based daughter of Charge Forward is one of the headline entries for the $150,000 Group 3 JHB Carr Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday’s All Aged Stakes Day, Slightly Sweet coming off a close seventh in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) from March 28.

Winner of the Group 3 Keith Nolan Stakes (1600m) at Kembla Grange two back, the always honest and super consistent filly was beaten under three lengths in her first elite level and 2000m test, and is tipped to thrive when back to Group 3 company over 1400m.

Also coming off a Group 1 run last time out is Lee Curtis’s Written Tycoon filly Press Report.

A recent winner at Warwick Farm, Press Report is a multiple Group 1 performer from the spring at Randwick when fourth to First Seal in the Flight Stakes over the mile and fourth again when up against the boys in the Spring Champion Stakes won by Hampton Court last October.

Last time out she raced at Randwick again in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 6 when well beaten as a $71 roughie behind Chautauqua, a run she’s out to atone for in easier company here.

Coming off better lead-up form is Ron Quinton’s Redoute’s Choice filly Peeping who is yet to finish out of the money in her six career starts, three of which she has won including the Listed Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill two back.

Last time out she raced at Randwick in the Group 3 PJ Bell Stakes (1200m) on a Heavy track at the start of the month and crossed just a neck away second to Miss Cover Girl.

Other fillies who ran well last time out include the Gai Waterhouse-trained Supara, Matilija and the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Nancy.

Domesday filly Supara has been in ace form throughout the autumn including a second to Group 1 winner Flight Seal in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m), a third to subsequent ATC Oaks favourite Winx in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) in open-gender company and her fourth to Hi World last time out in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) run in the mud at Randwick on April 6.

Lee & Anthony Freedman’s lightly-raced Medaglia D’Oro filly Matilija has won two of her four starts to date and has run third in her other two runs.

Both of her victories were at Melbourne’s Moonee Valley Racecourse, and she’s looking to improve on her Sydney debut last time out when third in the PJ Bell Stakes.

Big Brown filly Nancy meanwhile has had just the three runs to date for two wins including over 1300m at Warwick Farm last time out, Saturday to be her black-type debut if she’s accepted for.

Also in the mix are the likes of the Chris Waller-trained Romantic Time and the resuming Sebrina for Bjorn Baker.

See below for the full JHB Carr Stakes 2015 nominations, the final field and barrier draw out on Wednesday morning.
