Our Boy Malachi Geared up for Hall Mark Stakes Return

Our Boy Malachi has posted an incredible racing record of sixteen wins and one minor place finish through his eighteen start career so far and is reportedly in exceptional condition ahead of his racing return in Saturday’s Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Beginning his racing career under the guidance of Rockhampton-based trainer John O’Sing, Our Boy Malachi was transferred to the care of Team Hawkes following his 2014 winter preparation and responded well in posting three wins from as many Sydney starts, including both the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) and Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m).

Undoubtedly facing his biggest test to date in the 2015 Hall Mark Stakes, co-trainer Michael Hawkes said the team has been thrilled with the work completed by the Top Echelon gelding in recent weeks and believe he will return to competition an even better horse.

“He’s done everything right,” Hawkes told Racing Ahead.

“Last preparation he had the three from three and we decided the TJ (Smith Stakes, 1200m, Group 1) was there for him but Chautauqua was fit and ready for it and he would have been first-up going into it.

“We’ve elected to wait and run him in the Hall Mark.

“He’s done super, the horse, he really has. He’s a quality horse and we think he’s improved again.”

Confirming the featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) on June 6th remains his major target this preparation, Hawkes revealed Our Boy Malachi will be floated to Brisbane following the Hall Mark Stakes and will be set on the tradition Group 1 sprint path through winter.

“After that run obviously he’ll up to the BTC Cup, Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke and take that path,” Hawkes said.

“The Stradbroke’s been the main target for him this time around and that’s what we’ve set him for.

“He’s had a good, solid trial and a jump out here at Rosehill so he’s forward enough, he’s going to improve with every run that he has.”

The 2015 Hall Mark Stakes final field will be completed and released by midday, Wednesday, and is set to include the likes of Generalife, Hot Snitzel, Target In Sight and Fast ‘N’ Rocking.
