Wine Tails Headlines 2015 Adrian Knox Stakes Field

Chris Waller’s up-and-coming filly Wine Tales is one of the headline acceptors for the Adrian Knox Stakes 2015, which rounds out the Randwick racing action in Sydney for Day 1 of The Championships this Saturday.

Due to jump as Randwick Race 10 at 5:50pm (AEDT), this year’s $200,000 Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) features a final field of 14 three-year-old fillies.

The equal 58kg top weights in the field drawn at opposite ends of the park are the John O’Shea-trained Abduction out in 10 and the rails-drawn Wine Tales both with 58kg.

Godolphin’s Street Cry filly Abduction, runner-up to Thunder Lady in the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) last November before a brave fifth in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m), has had two unplaced runs this time in she’s out to improve on.

Her latest was an eighth to 2015 Doncaster Mile hope Plucky Belle in the Group 1 Coolmore classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 14 when beaten just over two lengths.

Wine Tales meanwhile should get the run of the race this weekend, the daughter of Tale Of The Cat having finished second behind Slightly Sweet in the Group 3 Keith Nolan Stakes (1600m) over the mile at Kembla Grange last time out.

She is looking to secure a run back at the track seven days later in Saturday week’s Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), for which she pays $17 to win in the futures odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The shortest-priced of the 2015 Australian Oaks hopes accepted for the Adrian Knox Stakes, which last produced an Oaks winner in 2013 when Royal Descent completed the double, is the Bart & James Cummings-trained Zarzali.

She pays $13 in the pre-field Australian Oaks odds after winning her past two starts on the trot.

Craig Williams rides the in-form daughter of Hussonet this weekend, the fifth hoop in as many starts to jump aboard the filly that comes off a 2400m win in the mud at Kembla Grange from February 28.

Also coming off last start wins are the likes of Rustic Melody, and the Team Hawkes-trained Joyful Journey and John Sargent’s Gust Of Wind who are also after their third on the trot.

Also in the mix for Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes is the talented grey Maastricht out in gate 13, the progressive filly coming off a close third in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley from March 20.

Other notable hopes include Group 1 performed Lady Macan out to improve on her 13th in the Vinery Stud and the Pat Carey-trained Mornington raider Choix De Maia.
