Carbine Club Stakes 2015 Field Features Doncaster Hopes

The first two emergencies for Saturday’s Doncaster Mile are both dually acceptors on the Randwick race card with Kermadec and Sweynesse heading the 2015 Carbine Club Stakes final field.

Exciting three-year-olds Kermadec and Sweynesse are the second and first emergencies for the coveted $3 million Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) field on the weekend.

They are sweating on a scratching to make the starting line-up however and respective connections of the pair have accepted for the $200,000 Group 3 The Daily Telegraph Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) as a fallback option.

Due to jump as Randwick Race 2 at 12:45pm (AEDT), this year’s Carbine Club Stakes field features nine three-year-olds.

The John O’Shea-trained Lonhro colt Sweynesse and Chris Waller’s Teofilo colt Kermadec are the equal highest-rated hopes drawn in barriers five and three respectively.

Runner-up to Saturday’s Doncaster Mile favourite Hallowed Crown two back in the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) over this track and distance, Sweynesse comes off a fourth in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) from March 21 and so will appreciate the drop back in distance on the weekend.

Kermadec meanwhile is the current $7 second favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Doncaster Mile despite being far from guaranteed a run, the youngster having run third to Japan’s Real Impact in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) when taking on the older horses last time out at Rosehill.

Outside the dominant two, the next highest rated hope in the Carbine Club Stakes this year is the Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Supara.

The grey daughter of Domesday has had three runs in Group 2 company this time in, her best result being a second to First Seal in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on February 28.

Last start on March 14 she ran third to Winx in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) in open-gender company, Saturday her first look at a mile.

Also coming off nice recent form are the likes of the Peter Moody-trained last start mile winner Hi World and O’Shea’s second acceptor Farolitos both drawn wide in barriers eight and nine respectively.

Moody has also accepted for the returning Authorized gleding Inauguration drawn nicely in barrier four for Hugh Bowman.

Rounding out the field are then the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Diamond Falores, Washington Heights who was runner-up in the Kindergarten Stakes on this day 12 months ago for Gerald Ryan and Bryce Heys’ Randwick Guineas fourth placed Sworn To Silence in gate two for last year’s Doncaster Mile winning jockey Zac Purton.
