Joe Pride’s last start Group 3 winner Target In Sight is after another Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival feature win this afternoon at Rosehill Gardens jumping favourite in the Star Kingdom Stakes 2015.
A bumper nine-race program lights up Rosehill for The BMW Day including the $150,000 Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) running as Race 5 at 3:10pm (AEDT).
The early scratching of the Peter Moody-trained Peron leaves a final field of 10 to face off in the handicap clash including Pride’s widely-drawn runner Target In Sight.
Jumping from the second widest barrier with Blake Shinn replacing James McDonald in the saddle the Nadeem five-year-old is second-up after winning the Group 3 Maurice McCarten Stakes (1100m) at the track first-up on March 14.
He gets the two weeks between runs and is up to his pet distance, Target In Sight boasting an outstanding 1200m record of five wins, three seconds and a third form 10 runs.
The gelding then is the deserving favourite and pays $3.70, in from $4.60, in the latest Star Kingdom Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Hot on his heels at $4, in from $4.40, is then the nicely-drawn Generalife in barrier three.
In-form hoop McDonald, who rode Target In Sight to victory in the Group 3 last time out, rides today’s favourite’s biggest threat in the Star Kingdom with Generalife resuming here.
The consistent Lonhro gelding hasn’t raced since late November and is after his first win since a black-type over 1400m at Rosehill in August last year.
While Target In Sight (55kg) is drawn wide in barrier nine, the better barrier for Generalife (56kg) has money coming for the John O’Shea-trained five-year-old.
The other single figure hopes in the race are then O’Shea’s other runner Sidestep ($6.50), the rails-drawn Heart Testa ($8.50) and Hot Snitzel ($9.50).
Exceed And Excel four-year-old Sidestep returns to racing here but is yet to win first-up from five attempts, the stallion last seen running ninth in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in Perth last November.
The stallion has run in the top three on three occasions first-up however and has good form over the distance including his Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Randwick 12 months ago.
The Chris Waller-trained Heart Testa also has nice form over 1200m with three wins, three seconds and two thirds from his 10 previous starts at the distance.
A five-year-old son of Testa Rossa the gelding, who jumps from barrier one today with Damien Oliver in the saddle, was last seen winning the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 14 and has been freshened-up since.
Hot Snitzel meanwhile is out in gate seven for Damian Browne, the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel six-year-old out to improve on a disappointing 10th when four lengths off It’s Somewhat in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) on February 28 last time out.
