Closing the Rosehill meeting this Saturday will be the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m), which is running as Race 9 at 5:50pm (AEDT).
A final field of 13 middle-distance runners accepted for the race on Wednesday morning but Chris Waller has already scratched Index Linked in favour of the Listed Mornington Cup (2400m) after the gelding drew the outside gate.
The premier Sydney trainer still has a monopoly on the race with four runners in the field – Foreteller, Hawkspur, Junoob, and Our Voodoo Prince.
The leader of the pack is eight-year-old gelding Foreteller, who will carry the lone topweight of 59.5kg as he jumps from barrier nine with Glen Boss to ride.
Foreteller is already a three-time winner at the highest level of racing and the last time the gelding was in the winner’s circle was last September in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m). He has happy to sit on the rail around midfield and went for inside runs to save ground before making a play early, grabbing the leader late and winning by a short half-head.
However the gelding has failed to even place in any of his six subsequent starts, five of which were Group One level races.
Our Voodoo Prince has drawn the best barrier of the Waller bunch, set to jump from barrier two with Damien Oliver to ride. The seven-year-old gelding hasn’t won a race since last autumn when he won all three of his starts, including the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m) on April 19.
The gelding has had seven starts since then, only managing to score a minor placing in the Sportingbet Handicap (1600m) on September 6.
Junoob will also enjoy a good start in the 2015 Neville Sellwood Stakes from barrier five with champion hoop James McDonald. The seven-year-old gelding won the Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) on September 20, running away late to put one and three-quarter lengths between him and his rivals, but has finished end of the field in all six of his subsequent starts.
Waller’s other runner Hawkspur will now jump from the outside gate following the scratching of stablemate Index Linked.
Outside of Waller’s dominance in the race, Dear Demi is the lone mare set to take on the boys in the Neville Sellwood Stakes. The Clarry Conners-trained five-year-old will jump from the second-widest barrier but will carry the minimum weight of 54.5kg, five kilos less than Foreteller.
Dear Demi has finished in the first two in just two of her seven starts over 2000 metres and was last seen winning the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) on September 26.
The mare resumed in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) on February 28 following a four and a half month spell, running an honest fifth (of 16). However she failed to make anything of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 14, finishing second-last.
