Suavito Headlines In 2015 Sunline Stakes Nominations

In-form mare Suavito has been included in the 2015 Sunline Stakes and is set to contest the Group 2 event at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Suavito has been a consistent performer since she made her racing debut in September of 2013, but she has gone to another level in the past six months and has recorded two wins from as many starts this preparation.

The Thorn Park mare was given a maiden opportunity at weight-for-age level in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 28 and she upstaged Smokin’ Joey and Dissident to record a memorable victory before she was the beneficiary of an outstanding ride from Damien Oliver when she took out the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 14.

Trainer Nigel Blackiston is keen to run Suavito in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), but she looks unlikely to earn a start and is now expected to contest the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) after running in the Sunline Stakes this weekend.

Another mare that will be taking winning form into the Sunline Stakes is imported galloper Noble Protector.

Noble Protector performed well without winning in two race starts in Melbourne during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but she was able to record a maiden race win in Australia when she cruised to an effortless victory in the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m) at Flemington on March 14.

One of the most interesting horses in the 2015 Sunline Stakes nominations is Makybe Diva’s three-quarter sister La Amistad, who will be returning to the races for the first time this preparation.

La Amistad started the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival on the second line of betting markets for the Melbourne Cup, but she was unable to record a win in six race starts and she was sent to the spelling paddock after she finished third behind Signoff and Big Memory in the Group 3 Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on November 11.

The Redoute’s Choice mare is unlikely to be given a lengthy autumn campaign and she will likely be sent back to the paddock quickly before she returns to begin another Melbourne Cup preparation.

Bippo No Bungus, Dig A Pony, Entertains, Epingle, Fontein Ruby, Girl In Flight, Hera, Jacinta, Marianne, Peggy Jean, Precious Gem, Star Fashion, Tully Costa and Wawail have also been included in the 2015 Sunline Stakes nominations.
