Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Trainer Mick Price has confirmed that Ready For Victory will contest the 2015 Sires Produce Stakes at Royal Randwick on April 4 after the talented colt finished a more than credible fourth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Ready For Victory ran off the track to the outside rail in the final stages of the Golden Slipper and arguably would have finished in the placings and significantly closer to the winner Vancouver if he had run straight at the key point of the race.
Price told Racing.com that he was happy Ready For Victory had finished so close to the placings despite doing plenty wrong in the Golden Slipper, but he admits that he is disappointed at the thought of what might have been.
“I would have been pleased had he given himself every chance,” Price said.
“I think he shied away from English and didn’t handle the corner and that set in place a bit of a thought process in the horse’s head.
“There isn’t another Golden Slipper so I’m a bit disappointed about what could have been
“It’s just a bit disappointing to see your horse run sideways and get so close.”
Ready For Victory was having just his second race start in the Golden Slipper after making his racing debut with a fast-finishing victory in the Listed Festival Of Racing 1000 (1000m) at Flemington on March 7 and Price said that he was happy to continue to race the More Than Ready colt as a two-year-old.
Price said that Ready For Victory came through the Sires Produce Stakes in outstanding condition and he plans to run the two-year-old in the Sires Produce Stakes, potentially with blinkers on, for the opening day of The Championships.
“The horse has pulled up well physically, he ate just about everything overnight and he’s a two-year-old that’s coping very well,” Price said.
“I might put a ring bit on him, which may allow him to be a bit more responsive if he does shy, and maybe blinkers.”
Ready For Victory is currently available at 2015 Sires Produce Stakes odds of $11 with leading online bookmaker Ladbrokes.com.au, while Golden Slipper winner Vancouver ($1.90) is a clear favourite from Blue Diamond Stakes winner Pride Of Dubai ($6).
