Merion is easily the highest-rated horse in the 2015 Tulloch Stakes nominations and will be having his first race start in Sydney after racing exclusively in Victoria during his racing career to date.

The O’Reilly gelding started his 2015 Melbourne Festival Of Racing campaign with a third place finish in the Hill Plate (1300m) at Sandown on February 7 before he finished a credible fourth in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on February 21 and was sixth behind Wandjina in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 7.

Merion will be stepping up to 1600 metres for the first time since he finished a disappointing ninth in the Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) at Caulfield on Caulfield Cup Day.

The Godolphin operation has included two gallopers in the Tulloch Stakes nominations and Gouldian and Hauraki are both expected to contest the Group 2 event at Rosehill Gardens this weekend.

Gouldian has recorded just one race win in nine race starts during his racing career to date, while Hauraki is taking strong form into the Tulloch Stakes after he finished second behind Winx in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 14.

Another stable that have included multiple horse in the Tulloch Stakes nominations is Team Snowden, who have both Diamond Valores and Blademeister in the entries for the $175,000 event.

Diamond Valores made a slow start to his autumn campaign with mediocre performances in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on February 7 and the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at the same venue on February 21, but he produced a better effort in the Phar Lap Stakes.

Blademeister will be facing the toughest test of his racing career to date in the Tulloch Stakes and he will need to improve substantially on his lackluster effort in a benchmark 67 event at Royal Randwick on March 11.

Brogue, Caped Crusader, General Zabeel, Happy Soul, High Midnight, Omeros, Quick Strike, Rhodin Drive, Ruling Dynasty and Saddler’s Flame have also been included in the 2015 Tulloch Stakes nominations.
