2015 Rosehill Guineas Tips & Selections

Just seven three-year-olds will contest the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) this Saturday but it’s sure to be a hotly contested race with Hallowed Crown and Sweynesse continuing their rivalry.

The 2000m trip could help Sweynesse score his first win over Hallowed Crown in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas.

The pair are neck-and-neck in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au with both sharing the $2.80 top spot followed by two other single figure hopefuls Mongolian Khan ($5) and Volkstok’n’barrell ($6), who ran first and second in the Group 1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) on February 28.

Bart & James Cummings’ Hallowed Crown has emerged victorious over Sweynesse in their two starts this campaign but John O’Shea’s colt could have the upper hand as they step up to his “optimal distance” of 2000 metres, which Hallowed Crown is untested on.

Check out our betting tips for the 2015 Rosehill Guineas below if you’re drawing a blank when it comes to picking a winner.

1st

#3 Mongolian Khan ($5

Murray Baker’s three-year-old colt is getting his Australian debut start in the Rosehill Guineas after a successful New Zealand campaign that has seen him win six of his seven career starts, including four black-type races. Mongolian Khan is a winner over the trip, taking out the Group 2 Waikato Guineas (2000m) on January 31 and is a winner at the highest level of racing with his victory in the New Zealand on February 28. The colt will jump from barrier six with Opie Bosson to ride.

2nd

#4 Sweynesse ($2.80)

Hallowed Crown has gotten the better of Sweynesse in their two starts this campaign however the John O’Shea-trained colt may finally get the upper hand as they step up to 2000 metres in the Rosehill Guineas. Sweynesse was third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in October and has finished a very close runner-up in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) since late February. The colt will jump from barrier five with champion hoop James McDonald.

3rd

#5 Hampton Court ($26)

Punters looking for a lucrative bet in the Rosehill Guineas should consider the Gai Waterhouse-trained Hampton Court with a win price of $26 or $9.40 to place. The colt will jump from barrier four with Joshua Parr to ride. While Hampton Court has run unplaced in both of his two starts this preparation, let’s not forget his dominant two and a quarter length win of the Spring Champion Stakes over the trip on October 11.
