2015 Ranvet Stakes Betting Tips

A small field of just seven horses will tackle the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday, with five of the runners offering single figure odds in the betting market at Ladbrokes.com.au.

Contributer is the firm favourite at $2.50 while the rest of the single figure hopefuls hover around the $5 price point.

The John O’Shea-trained five-year-old is one of four horses coming via the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) in February, both of which he comfortably won.

The 2015 Ranvet Stakes will also see the return of defending champion Silent Achiever, Singapore-based Dominant, and promising Japanese horse Tosen Stardom, who will get his first start in Australia on Saturday.

Check out our top three betting tips for the race below to get a good idea of who to put your money on.

#1 Contributer ($2.50

John O’Shea’s Contributer has a good record over 2000 metres and is in great form heading towards the Ranvet Stakes. The five-year-old has won four of his five starts over the trip, including the Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m) back on October 18, which was his first start in Australia after importing from the UK. Contributer resumed in the Apollo Stakes on February 14, winning the 1400 metre race comfortably by one and a half lengths, before taking out the Chipping Norton as $2.50 favourite. He will enjoy the return to 2000 metres as he jumps from barrier five with James McDonald to ride.

#7 Lucia Valentina ($6.50)

The Kris Lees-trained four-year-old mare has finished in the first two in all three of her starts over 2000 metres and will relish the return to the distance after running at less than a mile so far this campaign. Lucia Valentina won the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) back in October but has seen her price ease out from $4.80, potentially due to her two unplaced runs in February. She was an unlucky fourth in the Apollo Stakes, getting stuck in a tricky spot on the field 10 lengths back at the 500m. However she flashed home making up great ground to finish just a head off the first three. Expect to see her improve as she jumps from barrier two with Hugh Bowman.

#6 Silent Achiever ($5.50)

Rounding out our Ranvet Stakes tips is defending champion Silent Achiever, who will jump from barrier six with Kerrin McEvoy. The Roger James-trained mare won last year’s edition of the race after putting her nose down on the line when it counted, rounding out a treble of Group One wins. However she has failed to win any of her seven subsequent starts and only managed a minor placing in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 25.
