Rising Romance Odds-On Favourite in 2015 Epona Stakes Betting

The Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m) is one of nine races running at Rosehill this Saturday, during the action-packed meeting that includes five Group One races.

A classy field of 11 fillies and mares will tackle the middle-distance trip, including headliner Rising Romance. The Donna Logan-trained mare is the odds-on favourite in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au, with odds of $1.85 to win.

She may want to buckle under the pressure but the fact remains Rising Romance will need to win the 2015 Epona Stakes if she has any hope of making the field for the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) on April 11, for which she holds a nomination.

Rising Romance will enjoy an inside jump from barrier two with James McDonald to ride. The mare has placed in 11 of her 17 career starts but has yet to run over 1900 metres. She enjoyed minor success in the spring, running second in both the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) and Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), resuming for a handicap win over 1500 metres in New Zealand on February 14.

The mare was last seen running a very close second in the Group 1 New Zealand Stakes (2000m) on March 7, just a short half-head behind winner Sakhee’s Solider.

The only other single figure hopeful in the Epona Stakes betting is Telepathic at $5.50. The Chris Waller-trained mare will jump from barrier five with Glen Boss to ride.

Telepathic has finished first two in eight of her 13 career starts, including a Benchmark 85 over 1400 metres on February 14. She was last seen running fourth in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality (1600m) on March 7, just half a length behind winner Adorabeel.

The 2015 Epona Stakes is set to be a re-match of the Aspiration Quality with six runners coming via the race, including winner Adorabeel ($13) and runner-up Entertains ($11).

Joseph Pride’s Adorabeel will enjoy the inside run from barrier one with Sam Clipperton as jockey while John O’Shea’s Entertains will start in gate four with William Buick to ride.
