2015 NE Manion Cup Nominations Released

The Group 3 NE Manion Cup (2400m) is one of nine black-type races running at Rosehill this Saturday, five of which are at the highest level of racing.

A small yet classy field of just 10 stayers has been nominated for the 2015 NE Manion Cup, headlined by Bagman.

The Chris Waller-trained eight-year-old has placed in 27 of her total 45 career starts, and his last win came in the Legacy 2014 Badge Appeal Handicap (2000m) at Caulfield last August. He then went on to score minor placings in both the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and Group 2 Hill Stakes (2000m) before running just shy of the placings in the Group 1 Metropolitan (2400m) on October 4.

Following a three month spell, Bagman resumed in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) on January 31. He was not fast away and found himself back to the rear after jumping. He had eight lengths to make up from the 500 metres and managed to make up substantial ground late through the pack to finish just two and a half lengths off winner Weary in a top run.

Bagman then ran end of the field in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) two weeks later followed by an unplaced run in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) on February 28.

Waller absolutely dominates the 2015 NE Manion nominations with a further three possible runners – Diametric, Grand Marshal, and Permit.

Six-year-old Diametric enjoyed a minor placing in the Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m) on February 21 while Grand Marshal has run unplaced in all three of his starts this campaign. Eight-year-old gelding Permit was runner-up to Danas Best in the Listed Australia Day Cup (2400m) back in January but has run end of the field in his two starts since – the Parramatta Cup and Listed Canterbury Cup (2000m).

Other potential stayers nominated for the NE Manion Cup include David Payne’s Honorius, Clinton McDonald’s Beliveau, Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) winner Phrases, and Group 2 Wellington Cup (2400m) two length winner Maygrove.

Check out the complete list of nominations below. Betting markets for the race will open at Ladbrokes.com.au shortly; open your account today to receive up to $250 in a bonus match on your first bet.
