Silent Achiever Headlines 2015 Ranvet Stakes Nominations

The Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) is one of five Group One races running at Rosehill this Saturday, attracting 10 middle-distance runners in its nominations that closed this morning.

Headlining the nominations is the Roger James-trained Silent Achiever, who just so happens to be the defending champion of the $500,000 race.

The six-year-old mare rolled forward to be allowed to work over and sit second in last year’s edition. She had to cart field up to leader Carlton House and nearly struck the front turning but the leader gave another surge. She lost touch but picked up the bit again and put her nose down when it counted to win by a short half-head.

It was one of three consecutive Group One victories for Silent Achiever, which also included the New Zealand Stakes (2000m) and The BMW (2400m). However since last April, the mare has run unplaced in six of her seven starts, just managing to crack the first three in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 25.

Silent Achiever has already had two starts this campaign, running fifth in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) first-up on February 14 and fourth in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) two weeks later.

Chris Waller has nominated a trio of his stable stars for the 2015 Ranvet Stakes: Foreteller, Hawkspur, and He’s Your Man. All three horses have fitness on their side and two will be backing-up with just a week between runs if they accept for the final field.

Foreteller ran ninth in the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday while Hawkspur was in Sydney, running third to Hartnell in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (2000m), a smart turnaround from his end of the field runs in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m), and Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) this campaign.

Group One winner He’s Your Man resumed in the Apollo Stakes on February 14, running midfield in sixth place, before scoring a minor placing in the Chipping Norton Stakes two weeks later.

Other horses nominated for the Ranvet Stakes include Apollo Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes winner Contributer, Kris Lees’ top-class mare Lucia Valentina, and Japanese horse Tosen Stardom.
