Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
15 classy three-year-olds have found themselves nominated for the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) this Saturday, including Hallowed Crown.
The Bart & James Cummings-trained colt has won an impressive six of his seven career starts and is in prime form heading to Rosehill this Saturday.
Hallowed Crown resumed is autumn campaign in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on February 21. The colt got in behind the leading few nearer the inside and was two lengths back at the point of the bend. He tried for a run between leaders but was checked so went back inside before surging late to get the win a head from Sweynesse.
The colt then lined-up in the small six-horse field for the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) two weeks later. He was well away and switched off heels to settle second one length, one off the fence outside the lead. He was under riding around the home turn but loomed large on straightening before closing from 200m and hitting the front at 100m to draw clear and win by three-quarters of a length, once again ahead of Sweynesse.
The Cummings have also nominated Ruling Dynasty for the 2015 Rosehill Guineas, who has finished first two in all three of his past starts but has yet to debut in black-type racing.
Chris Waller could deliver a three-pronged attack on the race after nominating Preferment, Quick Strike, and Kermadec.
Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) winner Preferment has run unplaced in his two starts this campaign but will enjoy the return to 2000 metres after running between 1400-1600 metres. Quick Strike has placed in seven of his eight career starts but has yet to run at black-type level and Kermadec ran third in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on February 21.
The John O’Shea-trained Sweynesse is set to go head-to-head with Hallowed Crown once again, looking to get the upper hand on the colt, while he will also face Gai Waterhouse’s Hampton Court, who beat him home in the Group 1 Champion Stakes (2000m) back in October.
Other horses nominated for the 2015 Rosehill Guineas include Michael Moroney’s Merion, New Zealand-based Volkstok’n’barrell, Group 2 Autumn Classic (1800m) third placer Firehouse Rock, and Godolphin’s Gouldian.
