Rosehill Gardens will play host to an impressive five Group One races this Saturday, for which nominations closed this morning.
One of the races is the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m), which has attracted a field of 16 weight for age runners.
Headlining the nominations is Sacred Falls, one of seven potential horses saddled by Chris Waller in the race.
Sacred Falls won the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) by one and a quarter lengths back in September but has failed to place in any of his three subsequent starts. The five-year-old ended the spring with a fourth placing in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) and end of the field run in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) on October 25.
Following a four month spell, Sacred Falls resumed in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 7 but failed to make anything of the race, finishing fifth (of eight runners).
The other horses nominated by Waller for the 2015 George Ryder Stakes include Adelaide, I’m Imposing, Kermadec, Moriarty, Royal Descent, and Weary. Half of these runners are resuming in Saturday’s race while the other three will have fitness on their side if they make the final field.
Adelaide has placed in all eight of his career starts and travelled to Australia for the first time in October to win the Cox Plate, after which he was spelled for three months.
Nine-year-old gelding I’m Imposing finished runner-up in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) on December 13 before winning the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) two weeks later while Moriarty enjoyed a trip to Perth for the Summer Racing Carnival in November/December, placing in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) before winning the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) less than a head from Disposition.
Waller’s fit nominees include Kermadec, who has already had three starts this campaign but could only finish third in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m), Royal Descent, who was second-last in the Canterbury Stakes, and Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) winner Weary.
Other talented weight-for-age runners nominated for the George Ryder Stakes include Canterbury Stakes winner Cosmic Endeavour, David Hayes & Tom Dabernig’s Criterion, John Thompson’s Hooked, and Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner Shooting To Win.
Bart & James Cummings’ Hallowed Crown is dually nominated for the George Ryder and Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) this Saturday. The three-year-old colt is in great form after winning both of his two starts this campaign – the Hobartville Stakes and Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).
The 2015 George Ryder Stakes could also host two talented Japanese horses – Real Impact and World Ace.
