Pasadena Girl Wins 2015 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes

Classy two-year-old Pasadena Girl has continued her perfect career start at Flemington this afternoon; displaying a keen turn of foot late to take out the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes (1200m).

Jumping from the gates well, jockey Vlad Duric settled the daughter of Savabeel in prime position on the heels of early leaders Results, Pursuits and Andrioli; who set a fair tempo away from the gates and approaching the course proper.

Steadily pressing forward around 500m from the post, Pasadena Girl locked in a fierce sprint battle with Air Apparent in the final 200m; poking a head clear upon crossing the line; Pursuits boxing on for third.

Duric delivered a perfectly-timed ride on Pasadena Girl for success in the 2015 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes, and was quick to lay the praise on the classy filly after crossing the line.

“Have a look at her, she’s just got the best temperament, she’s a real class act and it’s just lovely to be able to get on her,” Duric said.

“I was always going to need a little bit of luck from 1 getting back, but when the gaps came she had a blistering turn of foot.

“The track’s in great order and is definitely going to race a touch better off the fence I think.”

Trainer Peter Moody was understandably pleased to saddle an early winner at Flemington’s Super Saturday, and revealed he is yet to set the next target for the now two-time black type winner.

“She probably stamped herself with a bit of class today,”

“There was probably a slight question mark over the opposition the other day but some of these fillies carry Blue Diamond form.

“She was going backwards and sideways at the 200 and was still able to get out and beat them.

“We had a healthy opinion of her before her first run and I think we walk away with perhaps a healthier one after today.

“She’s doing what her pedigree suggests she probably shouldn’t be doing … We’ll take her home and see how she pulls up and common sense says she’ll be in the paddock but I said that after her last run.”
