Sabatini Favourite in 2015 Kewney Stakes Betting

Just four fillies are offering single figure odds in the betting market at led by Sabatini at $3.20.

The firm favourite has seen her price shorten from $3.50 to $3.20 since the market opened Wednesday afternoon making her the market mover.

Sabatini will have to overcome a wide start from barrier 13 in the 2015 Kewney Stakes but that hasn’t stopped support coming in for the filly from punters.

The Lee & Shannon Hope-trained three-year-old is one of only three last-start winners in the field and is in great form after winning both her first two starts this campaign.

After scoring a minor placing in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) in October last year, Sabatini was spelled for four months before resuming in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) on February 14, winning by three-quarters of a length.

She tackled the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) two weeks later, winning one length ahead of her rivals.

Sabatini will travel to Flemington for the first time since running third in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) back in September after getting her past four starts at Caulfield. The filly will face some tough competition in the 2015 Kewney Stakes, including from three other single figure hopefuls:

  • #4 Wawail ($6.50) – the David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained filly will enjoy a jump from barrier three with Michael Walker to ride. Wawail has won four of her five career starts, including the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) over the same distance as the Kewney. The filly was last seen running third in the Group 3 Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 21.
  • #14 Vezalay ($7.50)Leon & Troy Corstens’ filly will jump from barrier 12 with champion hoop Damien Oliver as she tries to win her first race since her maiden back in October. The lightly-raced Vezalay ran fifth to Written Dash in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes (1200m) on February 27 but was just two and three-quarter lengths away. The filly has been fluctuating between $8.50 and $7.50.
  • #11 Bottle Of Smoke ($9)Mick Price is set to dominate the Kewney Stakes with four runners in the race, however just one is offering single figure odds. Bottle Of Smoke will enjoy a jump from barrier four with Craig Newitt and won her maiden along with a Benchmark 64 before finishing just outside the placings in the Angus Armanasco.
