A third of field is offering single figure odds in the Ladbrokes.com.au betting market, led by firm favourite Manhattan Blues.

The Tony McEvoy-trained gelding is paying odds of $2.90 to win his first race since his maiden on January 10.

Manhattan Blues was sixth in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) 16 days later but a second placing in the 2YO Inglis Premier (1000m) earned him a place in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) field on February 28.

He was midfield and wide with cover in the $1 million race and improved (wide out) rounding the home turn, making good ground to finish three lengths behind winner Pride Of Dubai in fourth place.

Manhattan Blues will jump from barrier nine with Mark Zahra in the 2015 Sires Produce Stakes. The gelding faces some tough competition in the $200,000 race, including from three other single figure hopefuls.

  • #2 Sampeah ($4.20) – the John O’Shea-trained colt will need to impress in the Sires Produce Stakes to earn a place in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) field along with his Godolphin-bred siblings. Sampeah will enjoy an inside jump from barrier three with James Doyle to ride. The colt won his maiden back in November and finished third in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 14 but ran midfield in the main event two weeks later.
  • #8 Jameka ($5) – one of two juveniles saddled by Ciaron Maher in the Sires’ Produce Stakes, Jameka is the market mover of the field after her price shortened from $5.50. The filly has yet to score a win but has run second, third, and fourth in her three career starts. Jameka will jump from the outside gate with Nicholas Hall to ride.
  • #10 Queen Of Wands ($7.50)Clarry Conners’ filly is the only last-start winning in the field and rounds out the single figure betting. Queen Of Wands won the Guinot Skincare Handicap (1300m) by two and a quarter lengths last time out after failing to make the Blue Diamond field. She will enjoy the inside jump from barrier one with Damian Lane to ride.
