This Saturday a host of Australian Derby and Oaks hopes face off in the Phar Lap Stakes 2015 at Rosehill Gardens with three fillies currently dominating the markets.

Due to run as the penultimate event on the nine-race Coolmore Classic Day program, this year’s $175,000 Group 2 Cellarbrations Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) field features 10 three-year-olds.

Current narrow favourite in the Phar Lap Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the Chris Waller-trained Winx paying $4 to beat home the boys.

Drawn in barrier seven with Tommy Berry to ride, the Street Cry filly is third-up for the season with her latest run being a fifth behind Saturday’s odds-on Coolmore Classic favourite First Seal in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on February 28.

She gets extra metres here to improve, which she should eat up after her second to First Seal over the mile last spring in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

There is hardly anything separating Winx and her two main dangers in the Phar Lap Stakes betting markets though with market mover Supara ($4.20) and Wine Tales ($4.50), drawn in barriers two and one respectively, hot on her heels.

Gai Waterhouse prepares Domesday filly Supara who is the early market mover having opened at $5.50 before being smashed by the punters overnight.

The pretty grey was a disappointing first-up 10^th to Adrift in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m), but quickly showed improvement on Chipping Norton Stakes Day when second in the Surround Stakes.

Wine Tales meanwhile is Waller’s other runner in the race, the rails-drawn daughter of Tale Of The Cat coming off a Surround Stakes sixth under five lengths off the freakishly talented winner.

Outside the dominant trio of fillies who are eyeing a run in the $1 million Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11 during The Championships are three other single figure hopes.

The best fancied of the boys at $7 is Waterhouse’s Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) winning Redoute’s Choice colt Hampton Court out to improve on a ninth behind subsequent Randwick Guineas champ Hallowed Crown in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) last month.

He is followed by Testashadow ($9) and Diamond Valores ($9.50) who have both eased out from their opening quotes, and who are both also heading towards the $2 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) on April 4.

The Gary Portelli-trained Testashadow jumps one inside of Hampton Court (barrier four) from gate three with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.

His latest win was in December over the 1400m here before a second on the Gold Coast in January behind Deiheros in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

Last time out on February 21 he ran sixth, beaten under four lengths, to Wandjina in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) who went on to win last weekend’s Group Australian Guineas over the mile at Flemington.

Diamond Valores then represents Peter & Paul Snowden in gate five, the Tavistock gelding down in class after a 10^th in the Hobartville over six lengths off Hallowed Crown.
