There’s plenty of talent among the nominations with Bonaria, Suavito, and Epingle all set to carry the topweight of 58.5kg if they accept for the race on Wednesday.

Pat Hyland’s Bonaria is the two-time defending champion of the Schweppervescence Trophy after winning the race in both 2013 and 2014. The six-year-old mare is dually nominated for the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) running at Rosehill but her trainer has already decided to stick it out in Melbourne.

Already a Group One winner after taking out the Myer Classic (1600m) back in November, Bonaria began her autumn campaign with a runner-up finish in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) in February 14, after which she ran fifth in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m).

Sharing the topweight with Bonaria are Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) winner Suavito, who is dually nominated for the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) in which she’ll carry a 1.5kg swing, and Epingle. The Michael Kent-trained mare hasn’t been seen since she was runner-up to Au Revoir in the Group 2 Sandown Classic (2400m) back in November.

The Ciaron Maher-trained Set Square is another top-rated filly in the nominations, set to carry just 56kg if she lines up in the Schweppervescence Trophy. The three-year-old filly has placed in all five of her career starts, which includes a win at the highest level of racing after winning the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 6. She resumed in the Group 3 Vanity (1400m) on February 21, running half a length behind winner Sweet And Speedy in second place.

Both Lee & Shannon Hope and Darren Weir have nominated two horses each, which means they could deliver dual-pronged attacks on the race this Saturday.

The Hopes could saddle both Mannerism Stakes runner-up Choose and Fenway while Weir has nominated four-year-old Scarlet Billows and Mannerism Stakes third Street Allure.

Other talented mares nominated for the Schweppervescence Trophy include Peter & Paul Snowden’s Marianne and Robert Smerdon’s Noble Protector.
