Flight Stakes winner First Seal is the top rating filly among the first acceptances for the Group 1 $1m ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11.
The John Thompson trained First Seal carries a rating of 106 and is the best performed of the fifty-seven fillies left in the Australian Oaks at first acceptance time.
The Australian Oaks is one of four Group 1 races run on the second day of ‘The Championships” at Randwick.
First Seal won the Group 1 $400,000 Coolmore Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick during the 2014 Sydney Spring Carnival and showed that she has returned in the Autumn in superb form with a two and three quarter lengths wins in the Group 2 $175,000 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on February 28.
Premiership winning trainer Chris Waller has left four fillies in the Australian Oaks with his Group 1 winning filly Amicus the best performed over Winx, Ballet Suite and Wine Tales.
The lightly race Amicus was able to win the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival and has had two runs back this campaign.
The Fastnet Rock filly finished ninth to Adrift in the Group 2 $175,000 Liberty International Underwriters Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 14 followed by a fourth to First Seal in the Surround Stakes.
Adrift is the pick of Gai Waterhouse’s six fillies left in the Australian Oaks, the other being Miss Interiors, Talisa, Tiare, Twirl and Winter Sweet.
Adrift caused a major boilover with a first up win as long odds over First Seal in the Light Fingers Stakes then was always back in the field when seventh to First Seal in the Surround Stakes.
Randwick based Kiwi trainer John Sargent has left four fillies in the Australian Oaks with Thunder Lady looking his best prospect.
During the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival Thunder Lady showed that had plenty of class and staying ability with a win in the Group 2 $300,000 Racing.com Wakeful Stakes (2000m) followed by a second to Set Square in the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) five days later, both at Flemington.
Set Square is one of two Ciaron Maher trained fillies left in the Australian Oaks at first acceptance time.
